Friday December 30th
Reports indicate that a small fire broke out in the clubhouse yesterday. A Fire Brigade spokesman said it was lucky that a water pipe ruptured and put out the fire which was caused by an electrical fault. As a result the clubhouse will be closed until further notice.

Wednesday December 7th
Accrington will begin indoor training at the club on Thursday January 5th between 6.30 and 7.30pm under the watchful eye of fitness guru Matt Donnelly.

The Junior Section is holding a Mixed Dinner on March 23rd. More

Monday December 5th
Accrington's scorecards in the Inter League Challenge Trophy have now been completed along with all the clubs matches from 1917 and 1918 when Lancashire League cricket was suspended.

Sunday October 30th

The full senior fixtures for 2012 are published on the website for the first time today now that the 20/20 fixtures have been released. Accrington begin their league programme with a home game against East Lancs on Sunday April 22nd. This year three games are on Bank Holiday Mondays with Accrington going to Church on Monday May 7th, entertaining Enfield on Monday June 4th and finally hosting Church in another derby on Monday August 27th. The double headers kick in a week later this time with the first Saturday game not scheduled until May 19th, although May 12th is the First Fixed Date. The halfway point in the season sees back to back games against Colne in mid June. The 20/20 competition begins on Friday May 25th with a trip to Enfield. The final will be played on Friday July 6th. The Worsley Cup begins on Sunday May 20th with a home tie against Colne. The final will be played on Sunday August 12th. The Junior Cup Final will be played on Saturday August 4th.


Wednessday October 26th
Accrington have been drawn at home to Colne in the 1st round of the Worsley Cup.

Worsley Cup holders Ramsbottom have been drawn at home to East Lancs. League champions Lowerhouse also have a home tie against Rawtenstall. Todmorden entertain Haslingden and Rishton face Bacup at Blackburn Road and Nelson entertain Burnley in a local derby. Church and Enfield have byes. The matches will be played on Sunday May 20th. The 2nd Round will be played on Saturday June 9th with the semi finals due to be played on Sunday June 24th. The final has been scheduled for Sunday August 12th.

Tuesday October 25th
Accrington have been drawn at home to Gujrat in the 1st Round of the LCB Cup. Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse have been drawn at home to their Ribblesdale League neighbours Read. Worsley Cup holders Ramsbottom are also at home to Ribblesdale League opposition, taking on Ribblesdale Wanderers. Church travel to Westhoughton and Todmorden have a bye.

Monday October 24th
This weeks archive scorecards feature matches 100 years apart. Accrington's first ever Inter League Challenge Trophy game against Werneth along with the club's Lancashire League matches from 1897 have been uploaded. The outstanding match of the season was at Todmorden when Accrington chased down a target of 201 for victory in just 95 minutes. Professional Walter Hall (87 not out) and JF Knutton (80 not out) added an unbroken 159 to notch a sensational 8 wicket victory. Archive Scorecards

Thursday September 8th
Accrington will look to secure the Holland Cup for the first time since 1989 when they entertain Burnley in the replayed replays from June 12th/ July 16th on Saturday. Jimmy Hayhurst's men need to take 12 points from their final two games to hold off the challenge of Ramsbottom and Todmorden who can both finish in second place. Matt Lamb and Cole Hayman are replaced by Josh and Gus Whitehead in the Burnley team. Accrington professional Ashar Zaidi gets married on Saturday so Radcliffe's Anwar Ul Haq stands in. New Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse will be aiming to complete a clean sweep of thirteen successive home wins when they entertain second placed Accrington on Sunday. Charlie Cottam's men have so far swept all before them at Liverpool Road on the way to a second title. Morecambe professional Anwar Ali will stand in for Francois Haasbroek who has now returned home. Former Accrington and Rawtenstall all rounder Toby Bulcock has signed as professional for Northern League side Carnforth for 2012.

Second placed Accrington, the only club with an outside chance of preventing Lowerhouse from winning a second ever title, travel to bottom club Colne on Saturday in the replayed fixtures from July 17th. Accrington professional Ashar Zaidi has declared himself fit after missing last Sunday's win at Haslingden with a knee injury so the club name an unchanged team. Colne professional Mansoor Amjad is the man in form having hit unbeaten centuries on the last two Saturdays after signing for Settle. Adam Holt replaces Tayyib Jamil in the Colne team. Monday August 29th
The thirds beat league leaders Haslingden in a rain affected game at Thorneyholme Road. The leaders were restricted to 88-9 in 29 overs with Ben Brierley and Liam Smalley both taking 3 wickets, Bryn Hargreaves and Bennett Hawkins 1 apiece. Jacob Johnson made 17, Hargreaves 21, Jake Clarke 27 with Sam Tattersall and Smalley seeing Accrington to victory with 10 overs to spare. The team is now 16 points behind Haslingden with 2 games to play.

Saturday's match against Church has been switched to Thorneyholme Road.

Thursday August 25th
Three weekends and six match dates to go before the curtain falls on the 2011 Lancashire League season. League leaders Lowerhouse sit proudly on top of the table 36 points ahead of Saturday's opponents Accrington and 40 points ahead of Sunday's visitors defending champions Ramsbottom. Once again the top game is at Thorneyholme Road on Saturday when second placed Accrington entertain runaway leaders Lowerhouse. Accrington name an unchanged side whilst Lowerhouse name Jon Finch after a broken index finger in place of Jonny Whitehead. Monday August 22nd
Accrington 2nds completed double over Church yesterday. Accrington posted a total of 190 for 9  in their 48 overs with Jacob Clarke hitting his 2nd team maiden 50 in his total of 69,  Jake was  backed up with cameo performances from Liam Smalley,  with a 15 ball 30 * , Matt Schofield 25 , Jon Hayhurst 18 and Gul Khan 16 . Church were then dismissed for 65 with a Marley Ali being the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 11 off 7 overs.  
 

Thursday August 18th
The big match on Saturday is at Thorneyholme Road where the champions of 2008 and 2009, Accrington, face the 2010 champions Ramsbottom. The two sides played out a thriller at Acre Bottom earlier in the season when Ramsbottom came out on top by just 10 runs. Ramsbottom are at full strength with no changes from last week. Thursday August 11th
Ian Johnson's title chasing thirds go to Burnley on Saturday looking for a win that would close the 17 point gap on leaders Haslingden.

Third placed Accrington travel to Nelson on Sunday. The visitors have a long history of coming out second best against Nelson but they have enjoyed some good victories on Seedhill in recent seasons. Russell Bradley returns for Nelson in place of Peter Dibb and Bryn Hargreaves returns after injury for Accrington in place of Jon Hayhurst. The home side again have Clitheroe's Kashif Siddiq as sub professional after his fine all round performance at Accrington when he took five wickets and scored a half century. Monday August 8th
The 3rd X1 had an excellent result yesterday against Rawtenstall bowling them out for 83 with Ash Whittaker having 5 victims. Jacob Johnson 31 and Jake Clarke 36 as the team knocked the total off with 11 overs remaining. This puts Accrington a point behind Rawtenstall with 4 games remaining which still gives us a fighting chance of the league if we continue to play the way in which be have been. We still have to play Haslingden yet which could be the match deciding the league. Thanks to all the players for the effort they have put in so far this season despite the weather being against us missing out on 3 results.


Wednesday August 3rd
Accrington travel to Todmorden on Saturday. The club that has gone the longest time since lifting the trophy is Todmorden who sit in second place. Without a championship win since the days of Safdar 'Big Jim' Minhas in 1957, Andrew Sutcliffe's warriors tackle the team in third place, Accrington who are eleven points behind with twelve wins, one less than the home side. The newly wed Mitch Taylor returns for Accrington in place of Liam Brankin. The return of James Morgan from holiday means that Todmorden are at full strength. Accrington face a stern test with the visit of Nelson on Sunday. Accrington have beaten Nelson just twice in the last five seasons. Graham Lloyd replaces Matt Schofield in the Accrington team. A big weekend lies head with a top of the table clash at Ramsbottom on Saturday followed by a Worsley Cup tie against Todmorden at home on Sunday.

Joint league leaders Ramsbottom and Accrington meet in the big league game of the day at Acre Bottom on Saturday. The current champions take on the kings of the previous two seasons with both teams having won four out of five matches to date. the Five Year Form Guide show four wins for Accrington and six for Ramsbottom with Jon Fielding's men winning both league meetings last season. Accrington skipper Jimmy Hayhurst said: "This will be our toughest test yet this season. We may be forced into some changes this weekend as we are tracking the fitness of one or two lads, but I know the eleven who play will be up for it and will give 100%." Accrington supporter Stewart Graham has died in hospital today following a road crash in which his wife Norah also died last week.

Jimmy Hayhurst's Accrington travel to Lanehead to play a rejuvenated Bacup side on Saturday. Visiting professional Ashar Zaidi has already turned in three outstanding match winning performances in contrasting styles. After a seven wicket haul with the ball against Rishton he turned in a responsible innings to win the match against Todmorden. The Club is saddened to announce the death of Club President Peter Barratt. [More]

The club is also saddened to hear of the death of Norah Graham, mother of former Accrington player Paul and Grandmother of ex first teamer Mark Demaine. Norah's husband Stewart is also in intensive care following a road accident.

Thursday April 28th
This weekend is the first double header of the season. On Saturday Accrington and Todmorden renew their rivalry at Thorneyholme Road. The two sides have been well matched over the last five seasons with Accrington leading 5-4 in wins. On Sunday the Lancashire League season begins. The two clubs who held the title before Ramsbottom meet at Thorneyholme Road where 2008/2009 champions Accrington meet the 2007 champs Rishton. Both clubs have new captains and new professionals. Accrington will be without the unavailable David Ormerod and Graham Lloyd who has recently suffered a family bereavement. Graeme Sneddon and Damien Clarke are injured so eighteen year-old Marley Ali makes his senior debut and Matt Donnelly gets his first senior game since 2006 whilst Paul Carroll's retirement has proved a very short one. Pakistani left handed all rounder Ashar Zaidi makes his league debut for Accrington as professional after impressing in last weekend's friendly whilst Cameron Delport makes his debut for Rishton under new skipper Jimmy Bibby. Rishton are without Andy Bartley and Craig Smith but new signing from Clitheroe, Afaq Ali Sartaj makes his Lancashire League debut. Karl Andrews will keep wicket. Sunday April 17th
The club is saddened to announce the death of Andy Eland who passed away this morning. Andy was involved in junior cricket for many years and he was the current Manager of the Under 9s. Deepest condolences to his family. Andy's funeral will take place at St Joseph's Church at 1.15pm on Tuesday April 26th followed by a service at Accrington Crematorium at 2pm. The wake will be held in the Peel Park.

Saturday April 16th
New skipper Jimmy Hayhurst took 4-22 to set up an 8 wicket win over Bradshaw in this season's opening friendly at Thorneyholme Road. The visitors made 167-7 from 40 overs and then new professional Ashar Zaidi hit three huge sixes in making 49 with fine support from Simon Hanson (42), Andy Greenwood (34) and Stuart Crabtree (20) to get the season off to a great start.

Accrington 2nds home game against Read 2nds on Sunday April 17th has been cancelled because the visitors can't raise a team due to a clash with a 3rd team game.

Tuesday April 5th
Brenda Prickett wife of former Lancashire League President and club Chairman Brian Prickett has sadly passed away in hospital today. The funeral service will be held at Cambridge Street Methodist Church on Friday April 15th at 1.15pm.

Monday April 4th
Accrington's friendly at Egerton on Sunday April 17th has been cancelled due to Bolton's involvement in the FA Cup semi finals.

Sunday April 3rd
Sharon Lloyd, wife of Graham, mum to Joe and Josh, lost her long and courageous fight against cancer this morning. Deepest condolences from all at the club to Graham and family. The funeral will be held on Friday April 8th at Accrington Crematorium. The wake will be held in the Peel Park.

Saturday March 26th
The Rishton CC Sponsored Walk in aid of Jean Procter to raise funds for a new scoreboard at Rishton and Macmillan Nurses will visit Thorneyholme Road on Sunday April 24th just before the start of the opening match against Rishton. [Schedule]

Monday March 21st
Robert 'Rob' Rigby passed away at the age of 51 on Friday. Rob played for the thirds in the 1970s. An attacking early order left hander, he was 'Man of the match' in the 1979 Ashwell Trophy Final at Colne, hitting an unbeaten 29 after taking two fine catches in an 8 wicket win that sealed the cup for the fourth successive season. Rob was also lead singer with local bands Oxym  and more latterly Gridlock. Condolences to his family. The funeral is on Monday at Accrington Crematorium at 1pm.

The funeral of former Club President Roy Heap will take place on Friday March 25th at St John's Church at 10.45am followed by Cremation at Accrington 11.40am. Donations if desired to East Lancashire PCT to benefit the Renal Unit

The club is due to re-open on Thursday now that the water supply has been restored.

Tuesday January 11th
Indoor Nets have now been booked at Accrington Academy. [More]

The club is holding an EGM directly after the club's AGM which begins at 8pm on Monday 7th February in the clubhouse. [More]

The recent freezing weather has hit the club hard with no water supply since 8th December. Once the supply is restored around a dozen burst pipes will need to be repaired. [More]
