Sunday November 23rd
Former Accrington professional Tama Canning has been named in the New Zealand One Day squad to play in Pakistan. Tama had an outstanding season for Auckland last year, taking 46 wickets, the most by any bowler in first-class play last year and he scored 465 runs at 38.7, including one century. Tama was professional at Accrington in 2001 after standing in for Nathan Astle at the end of the 2000 season.


Friday November 14th
Mohsin Ahmed finished second to Rawtenstall's Chris Cook-Martin in the Lancashire League's Under 23 Batting Award. Moh hit 544 runs with Cook-Martin finishing on 601, overtaking Moh on the final match after hitting 69 against Nelson.

Long serving A Team batsman and club coach Alven Burrows was named as Accrington Cricket Club's first 'Website Player of the Year' at the club's Annual Presentation Night last night. [More]

Monday October 20th
Former Accrington batsman Les Carter has died at the age of 87. Les made his Lancashire League debut at the age of 21 in 1937. Like many of his contemporaries, he lost six cricketing years to the Second World War. A strong on side player who had a good defence, Les was at home anywhere in the first four. His best season was in 1950 when he scored 608 runs. Les was an occasional bowler and in 1956 he took 14 wickets. From 1961 until his retirement in 1968, Les was 2nd XI captain. The funeral will be at Accrington Cemetery on Friday. Donations can be made to Accrington Cricket Club.

Clarets' star Richard Chaplow presented the awards at the annual Junior Presentation Night. [More]

Tuesday October 7th
Ex Accy junior and current Burnley starlet Richard Chaplow will be presenting the awards at the Accrington CC Junior Presentation Night this coming Saturday at 8pm.

Monday September 29th
Graham Lloyd will present the awards at the Senior Presentation on Saturday October 25th.

Monday September 15th
The club is saddened to learn of the death of Stuart Edmonds. Stuart was a hard working committee man for many years until he joined Enfield along with his son Russell in 1997. The club offers its deepest condolences to the Edmonds family.

Monday September 8th
Andre Seymore has finished as the top fielder in the league averages with 18 catches. In the batting averages he finished 10th with 1235 runs at 53.7, including ten half centuries and three centuries. Top amateur batsman was Mohsin Ahmed in 48th place with 544 runs at 21.8. Jimmy Hayhurst and Steve Juliff finished in joint 29th place in the bowling averages with Jimmy taking 30 wickets and Steve 24 at 22.5. Adam Barnes was in 10th place with 21 victims in the wicketkeeping stakes. [League averages]

Saturday September 6th
The Thirds lost their last league match of the season at Rawtenstall. Andy Thompson (34), Andy Greenwood (30), Simon Hanson (25 not out) and the Donnelly brothers Adam (a career best 21 not out) and Matthew (18) took Accrington to 182-8 but the home side got home by 6 wickets. Saturday August 30th
Graeme Sneddon (91*) and Stuart Crabtree (71*) put on a 3rd XI club record 3rd wicket stand of 171 as the 3rds beat Church by 8 wickets. [Thirds records] Andy Greenwood and Dave Kennedy had an opening partnership of 22 with Dave the victim, out on 15. Andy Greenwood in a more aggressive stance playing some lovely drives for 30 before leaving a ball outside off stick only to see it come in off the seam and bowl him. Crabby and Sneds partnership got off very quickly. After some very fine shots Graeme was dropped by none other than Simon "give me a bucket" Brankin.

Former Accrington 2nd XI wicketkeeper Richard Chaplow scored his first league goal for Burnley in the Clarets 1-0 over Crewe at Turf Moor this afternoon.

Paul Barratt returns to the first team in place of Sajjad Sadiq for the home game with Enfield on Sunday.

Tuesday August 19th
Paul Barratt back in the firsts after hamstring trouble in place of Stefan Heins. Steve Juliff is unavailable so Stuart Crabtree stands in. Stefan and Steve both return on Sunday against Ramsbottom who have Netherfield's Pieter Strydom as professional.

The proposed 20/20 competition next Monday has been cancelled.

Steve Juliff returns in place of Sajjad Sadiq for the first team's trip to Church on Sunday. Professional Andre Seymore, who hit an unbeaten century at West End last season, needs another 98 runs to complete 1,000 league runs for the second year running.

Monday August 4th
Matthew Schofield captained the Hyndburn Cricket Development Groups Under 11 side in their first ever game against Blackburn with Darwen CDG at Lower Darwen. Matthew made 11 but his team lost.

Under 17s: Accrington v Todmorden 20 over match bad idea went dark with 5 overs to go. Accrington bowled really well restricting Tod to 92 for 5, Adam Donnelly putting in a really fine spell 4 overs 2 wkts 10 runs. Sag Hussain 4 overs 1 wkt 5 runs. Two young lads also got a bowl Matthew Donnelly 1 wkt 14 runs and Matthew Schofield 0 wkt 19 runs. After opener Graham Snedden was out for 15, Accrington steadly finished the job off with 4 balls to spare and not losing another wkt. Stuart Crabtree 49 not out, backed up by Sag Hussain on 12 not out. Accrington win and two dash off to catch a plane - Matt Donnelly and James Ormerod.

Sunday July 27th
Two milestones during todays home defeat by Bacup. Andre Seymore hit his 1,000th league and cup run of the season and Steve Juliff took his 200th Lancashire League wicket for Accrington.

A 65 year-old batting record was broken at Accrington on Sunday and no-one was more pleased than the previous holder of the record. [More]

There's no Stefan Heins or Damian Clarke for this weekend so youngsters Sagawat Hussain and Andy Thompson come into the first team squad at Lowerhouse on Saturday. Steve Juliff drops out on Sunday for the home game with Bacup so batsman Stuart Crabtree comes into the squad.

Graeme Sneddon made his debut for the Lancashire League Under 17s today. Graeme scored 16 and took 2-25 as the league beat the Palace Shield by 74 runs at Nelson.

Sunday July 20th
Andre Seymore (141) and Mohsin Ahmed (35) put on a club record opening stand of 181 against Haslingden. The previous record of 179 was set back in 1938. The team score of 272-6 was a club record score in limited overs cricket. In the seconds, Nasser Hussain hit his maiden century at Haslingden.

Saturday July 19th
The thirds beat Rishton by 4 wickets at Rishton. The home side made 123 all out with Sagawat Hussain and Graeme Sneddon picking up three wickets each. Richard Burrows hit 37 and took three catches on his return to action. Stuart Crabtree also hit 27.

Tuesday July 15th
Accrington bring in Stefan Heins for his first match of the season against Haslingden on Sunday.

Sunday July 13th
The seconds beat Rishton to record their first league win of the season. Accrington made 204-7 and then dismissed Rishton for 187.

Saturday July 12th
The thirds got hammered at Ramsbottom. The home side made 305-5 with Simon Hanson taking 3-31 in 5 overs on his debut. Sam Heap hit a career best 92 with three sixes, seven fours and an eight and Sagawat Hussain hit 31 as Accrington made 162 all out.

Tuesday July 8th
Accrington have Jimmy Hayhurst and Zahir Afzal back after injury for this weekends matches against East Lancs on Saturday and at Rishton on Sunday. Steve Juliff replaces John Pilling at Rishton. Andy Thompson and Sajjad Sadiq drop out.

Sunday July 6th
There have been some changes to the 3rd XI fixtures. On Saturday July 12th we play at Ramsbottom and on July 19th we are at Rishton. On Saturday August 16th we entertain Haslingden, Monday August 25th we travel to Burnley, Saturday August 30th we are at Church and finally on Saturday September 6th we are at Rawtenstall.

Tuesday July 1st
John Pilling returns to the first team this weekend for the games at Todmorden on Saturday and at home to Rawtenstall on Sunday. Steve Juliff is unavailable on Saturday but he is added to the squad on Sunday. James Hayhurst plays in the seconds in his first match since sustaining an ankle injury at work several weeks ago.

Check out the new Colne website which is now up and running.The site is the latest to come online thanks to the club's Junior Co-ordinator Ian Walker. The site includes player profiles, averages from the firsts down to the juniors, a history section and a section on the Bowling club.

Thursday June 26th
Our own travellin' man Ric Burrows arrives home today. Posters around the ground indicate a welcome home party on Sunday evening. The Under 11s won at Salesbury.

The firsts will pick from twelve for Sunday's home match with league leaders Nelson with Tariq Hussain and Adam Greenwood included and Andrew Thompson likely to be twelfth man.

The Under 11s lost to East Lancs - Accrington 264 East Lancs 274- East Lancs won 10 runs.

Wednesday June 18th
The Under 15s lost at Longridge. [More] The Under 11s beat Feniscowles - Accrington 344 Feniscowles 210 - Accrington won by 134 runs.

Tuesday June 17th
Accrington take on Todmorden at Thorneyholme Road on Saturday. Andrew Thompson makes his debut and wicketkeeper Adam Barnes returns after injury. Sunday sees Accrington 2nds facing Haslingden in the Second XI Cup semi final. Len Dewhurst's side have home advantage against a very powerful Haslingden side, that is likely to include Jack Simpson, the former first team wicketkeeper on the comeback trial, and Ian Cameron, who took all ten Rishton wickets last Sunday. Accrington include Steve Juliff, Tariq Hussain and Zahir Afzal in the squad.

Adam Barnes, Steve Juliff, Tariq Hussain and Zahir Afzal are all missing for Sunday's match at Rawtenstall. Andre Seymore will captain the Under 17s against Rishton on Monday.

Monday June 9th
Captained by the pro, Ramsbottom batted first in a 16 over match reaching 70 for 6. This was done with some creative bowling changes and fielding positions. We used 7 bowlers every one bowled well, with two getting their first wkt in the 17's, Simon Hanson and Matthew Donnelly.

The firsts lost at Bacup in the Worsley Cup in a last ball thriller. [More]. The seconds had a superb win over Bacup 2nds in the Cup to earn a home semi final with Haslingden on Sunday June 22nd.

Thursday May 29th
It's Bacup for both the first and seconds after Bacup won tonight at Lowerhouse with some ease.

Wednesday May 28th
The firsts will travel to either Lowerhouse or Bacup in the second round of the Worsley Cup. The seconds will entertain Bacup. Both matches will be played this Saturday.

The Under 11's 'B' team team lost to Haslingden by 67 runs., Accrington 'B' - 221 - 9 (167 net) Haslingden 'A' - 264 - 6 (234 net). The 'A' team play Rawtenstall away on Thursday night.

All of Saturday's matches in the ADCL have been called off. Teams will take 1 point each.

The new tops were presented to the juniors by the owner of Callum's restaurant Ray Peake tonight. The smart looking tops in club colours, sport the name of Callum's on the back and they will be worn by all our junior players during the season.

Tuesday May 20th
Adam Greenwood and Tariq Hussain replace Matt Wilson and John Pilling for the match at Enfield on Sunday.

Saturday May 17th
All today's matches were abandoned due to rain. The 1st XI match with East Lancs will be replayed on Saturday July 12th subject to Sunday's Worsley Cup ties going ahead. The A Team's Harry Wood Cup match against Clayton Youth Club will be played on Sunday June 1st.

Tuesday May 13th
Zahid Afzal returns to the seconds this weekend. John Pilling and Graeme Sneddon are back in the firsts for the visit of East Lancs on Saturday.

Monday May 12th
The Under 17s lost their first match of the season at home to Bacup tonight.

The juniors had a special Presentation Night to celebrate the winning of four trophies.

Thursday May 8th
The Under 15s lost at home to Colne in the ECB Cup. Colne made 85-3 off 16 overs with Andy Thompson taking 2-8. In reply, Accrington were 78-4. Sagawat Hussain hit 20 and Waqas Ahmed an unbeaten 19. The Under 11's 'A' lost at Salesbury by 9 runs tonight.

The Under 11s 'A' beat East Lancs (1) by 1 run in a thrilling finish tonight.

Tuesday May 6th
The Under 11s (2) lost to East Lancs tonight.

Matt Wilson returns to face Royton at Accrington on Saturday in the Inter League Challenge Trophy. Waheed Hussain also plays. Royton are a mid table side with Pakistani all rounder Iqbal Iman, a 34 year-old left handed batsman who bowls off spin, as professional. Take a look at the Royton website.

Abbas Sadiq and Tariq Hussain come into the side to face league champions Bacup at Lanehead on Sunday in place of Graeme Sneddon and Waheed Hussain.

The seconds feature a new player, Alex James, an Australian born all rounder who appeared for Darwen 3rds last season. Stefan Heins also returns this weekend and Len Dewhurst is back as 2nd team skipper.

Saturday May 3rd
Today's 1st team match with Lowerhouse was abandoned with Accrington 87-3 after 29.3 overs. Andre Seymore made 42 and Graeme Sneddon 11, the two openers putting on 65.
Clayton Racing won today's draw which was a meal for two with champagne reception at Callums Bistro.

The A Team's opening match with All Stars was called off last night.

John Pilling will make his first team debut on Saturday in place of Tariq Hussain who is unavailable.

Monday April 28th
Zaed Hussain will captain the A Team this season. The Junior Fund Raising draw will now take place this week.

The Under 13s are out of the ECB Cup. Accrington made 78- 5 off 16 overs but Colne replied with 80 for 3 off 12 overs. Mark Williams scored 27 (retired) and Waqar Khan 14 not out. Phillip Green took 1-14, Jonathan Duckett 1 -9 and Matt Schofield 1-11.

Thursday April 24th
Tariq Hussain returns for Accrington on Sunday. The all rounder replaces Matt Wilson who is unavailable. Nasser Hussain has informed the club that he will be playing in Yorkshire in future so Danny Greenwood steps in after top scoring with 46 in the seconds last weekend for the trip to Colne and the home match with Burnley on Sunday.

The Under 15 beat East Lancs in the ECB Cup. Accrington won the toss and batted first. [More]

The draw for the Junior Fundraising Scheme will be made this Sunday during the Burnley match. Please return your tickets and cash to Saf as soon as possible.

Lenny Dewhurst is to take a break from captaining the seconds.

Local boy/girl band Graffite entertained a packed clubhouse on Chairman's Night with their varied repertoire of material. New assistant groundsman Paul Young is featured in the band.

On Friday May 9th the Under 13s will receive their trophies at a special Presentation Evening.

Thursday April 17th
Professional Andre Seymore has arrived. The first team have been presented with the new track suits.

Tuesday April 15th
The Under 13s beat Lowerhouse in a cup match. Simon Hanson hit a superb unbeaten 25. The team will play at Colne on Friday April 25th in the next round.

Sunday April 13th
The Under 13s won the runners up trophy in the Lancashire Under 13s indoor six a side finals at Thornton Sports Centre today. [More] The first team went down to a last over defeat at Leyland. Stuart Crabtree underlined his potential with 39.

Saturday April 12th
The first team got off to a good start this afternoon by beating Clitheroe by 12 runs at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington made 163-8 with Mohsin Ahmed hitting 44, Matt Wilson 26, Stuart Crabtree 18, John Pilling 17 and Nasser Hussain 15. Mohsin then turned it on with the ball taking 4-40, with Waheed Hussain (2-18) and Nasser Hussain (2-8) also chipping in to bowl the visitors out for 151.

The Under 13s will play Lowerhouse at home on Tuesday 15th April 5.30 start in a cup match. The Under 15s will play East Lancs away on Wednesday 23rd April with a 6.00 start, also in the cup.

Tuesday April 8th
On Sunday April 13th, the Under 13s play in the Lancashire Indoor Finals at Thornton Sports Centre, Cleveleys. Our first match is against Fulwood and Broughton at 9.00am. Also competing are Cherry Tree, Haslingden, Fleetwood and Vernon Carus. Each team plays three group games with the top four competing in the semi finals.

This season the boundary at the Highams End will be 6m shorter due to damage done by the contractors who carried out the work on the Orange mast.

Check out the new Ramsbottom CC website. It's still 'under construction' but looks very promising.

Sunday April 6th
The club now has no fewer than nine qualified coaches. Today six people gained their Level 1 Coaching Certificate - Saf Ali, Steve Juliff, James Hayhurst, Dave Kennedy, Mick Donnelly and Mark Duckett. In addition 1st Team Manager Ian Wilson, Alven Burrows and Nigel Stockley are also qualified coaches.

The A Team is desperately short of players. If you have played in the team before and are available this season, or if you want to play please contact Nigel Stockley 01254 392923.

The Under 13s match at Haslingden will now be played on Monday 19th May.

The A Team will play Clayton Youth Club in the First Round of the Harry Wood Cup. [More]

On Thursday 27th March at 7.30 pm, Read are hosting an evening with Ace Cricket Bats of Elland which will include cricket bats, cricket clothing and accessories.

Sunday March 9th
The first team entertain Ribblesdale League side Clitheroe on Saturday 12th April and then travel to Leyland the day after. Andre arrives on Thursday April 17th and he wants a full scale practice on the Saturday before the league season starts.

Tuesday February 25th
The Accrington and District Cricket League lives on. The league had its AGM tonight and new officials were elected after the existing officials resigned en bloc. Our own Alven Burrows is the new treasurer with Susan Astbury, of Clayton Youth Club, being appointed as the league's new secretary. Ian Spence will be the results secretary with Abrar Shah of Attock taking over as chairman. The Formation Meeting will be on Thursday March 26th at the club, which will be the new venue for ADCL meetings from now on. New teams are invited to apply to join the league by contacting Susan Astbury (01254 301815) or Nigel Stockley (01254 392923) or turn up at the Formation Meeting.

Jimmy Hayhurst has informed the website that he will not now be joining the Crusade 'due to financial reasons.'

After over a week of not being able to upload new items onto the website, the problem has been resolved. The hosting company took an eternity to transfer files onto a bigger server.

There were no major issues at tonights AGM. Subs will remain the same. It was good to see the Tennis Section out in force.

Accrington claimed the first silverware of 2003 by beating Great Harwood in a tremendous six a-side final at Moorhead School. [More]

Sunday February 2nd
Two Accrington teams were in action this morning in the new Under 13s Indoor League. See how they went on.


James Hayhurst has now officially signed up for the English Crusaders tour to Australia next January. Jimmy said: "I am looking forward to meeting up with the squad next January. I spoke to Steve Gemmill yesterday and confirmed my position in the squad. Also John Dawson from Rawtenstall is on the tour as well."

The tour includes eight matches against Australian opposition, two days at the Sydney Test match, a One Day International in Melbourne and plenty of sightseeing. The party sets off on January 2nd 2004 and departs for England on January 24th. Further details can be found on the Crusaders website.

Sunday January 26th
This morning the Lancashire Indoor League (Under 13s) began at Moorhead High School. [Details]

Saturday January 25th
The club has received confirmation that it has been awarded £1000 towards the bowling machine project. The cheque will be presented on Monday 3rd February 2003 at Scaitcliffe House.

Friday January 3rd
Andre Seymore got the year off to a fine start with an innings of 77 in Easterns' Standard Bank Cup match with Northerns at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
