Lowerhouse were swept aside as Accrington’s march towards their first title since 1916 gathered momentum.

A ponderous innings by opener Gordon Jones was typical of the visitors knock of 160-4 declared which lasted until 5 o’clock. Jones made 69 and Maxie Mahmood an unbeaten 36 on a flat wicket.

A 90 run 3rd wicket stand between the Rushton brothers in under an hours batting all but sealed the win. At one point they hammered 39 runs in just four overs until Frank holed out to a full toss on the railway side of the ground after making a hard hit 39. Derek continued to his half century before finally falling for 65 with victory in sight. Skipper Lindon Dewhurst and Brian Rutter were at the crease when the points were secured. Scorecard
