Accrington's four match winning streak ended at Bacup Road where Rawtenstall came out on top in a tight finish with a 2 wicket win.

After the early loss of Frank Rushton for 5, Jackie Hope (37) and Derek Rushton (41) put together the best stand of the innings. Professional Wes Hall made 24 but none of Accrington's other batsmen could come to terms with Rawtenstall professional Chandu Borde who took 5-49 and paceman Jeff Guy (4-45) as the visitors were bowled out for 140.

Hall struck early to claim the wickets of Phillip White and Borde and then Eric Howarth was run out for 8. Hall picked up opener Jack Wilson for 14 but the West Indian paceman couldn't shift the home sides lower middle order. Brian Chapman made 33, Geoff Holt 40 and Kenny Barnes an unbeaten 22 to see Rawtenstall home with 8 wickets down. Hall finished with 4-55 and Jim Eland took 3-22 for Accrington.
