When the two teams met in the final match of the season at Acre Bottom Accrington had already clinched the title in the reverse fixture the previous weekend.

Eddie Robinson again played a starring role taking 5-31 to bowl the home side out for 79. Wicketkeeper and captain Jimmy Davenport top scored with an unbeaten 24, Richard Wheatcroft made 21 and Derek Hodgson 17. Accrington professional Wes Hall struck a major blow when he removed his opposite number the record breaking Seymour Nurse for just 4. Hall went on to take 3-34.

Frank Rushton top scored with 26 in the Accrington innings and fittingly skipper Lindon Dewhurst (15) and Robinson were at the crease when victory was achieved with 3 wickets in hand. Accrington secured their 14th win of the season with 45 minutes to go and were then presented with the Lancashire League championship trophy.
