Weekend Preview
Wednesday August 23rd 2023

Accrington are involved in
a battle of clubs at the wrong end of the table on Sunday at The Horsfield against next to bottom club Colne.

Accrington lost at home to Greenmount last Sunday.

Colne's big win at Crompton last Sunday followed a win over Rishton the previous week.

Accrington came out on top when the clubs met back in June.

Colne make three changes with Saud Ahmed, Alex White and Jake Greenbank replacing Lewis Rimmer, Kenton Rhodes and David Spokes.

Accrington also make three changes with wicketkeeper Alice Clarke, Kian Farnworth and Jon Hayhurst replacing Riley Armstrong, Damian Clarke and David Ormerod.

The seconds host Walsden on Sunday.

Just a reminder that games will be starting at 12.30pm.

The thirds have two games this weekend.

On Saturday the thirds host Nelson and on Bank Holiday Monday they go to Glebe Street to face Crompton.

Both third team games will start at 1pm.

Weekend teams

This season we have a double Looking Back Feature going back to 1993 when Neil Johnson was professional and also to 2013 when the club won the Lancashire League title for the last time with Ashar Zaidi as professional.

In 1993 Accrington's game at East Lancs was washed out and replayed the following Saturday.

In 2013 Accrington's long unbeaten home run was ended by local rivals Church who left Thorneyholme Road with a convincing 8 wicket victory on Saturday August 24th.

The following day new Lancashire League champions Accrington received the trophy after a resounding 50 run win over Enfield at Thorneyholme Road.
