Wednesday July 5th 2023

Accrington travel to Alexandra Meadows on Sunday to face promotion chasing East Lancs who are in fifth place after losing to leaders Middleton last Sunday.

Accrington go into the match after back to back defeats to Middleton and last Sunday to Nelson who moved off the bottom of the table after an 8 wicket win.

East Lancs make one change with Phill Aspinall returning in place of Jameel Waghat.

Accrington make three changes. Asad Khan, Jon Hayhurst and wicketkeeper Alice Clarke replace George Mills, Siraj Hussain and Jimmy Hayhurst.

The seconds host East Lancs in the reverse fixture on Sunday.

The thirds travel to Greenmount on Saturday.

The club is looking for an umpire and a scorer for this game and for the remainder of the season.

Please contact Mark Taylor on 07949610512 if you can help.

On Friday there is a T20 game between Accrington CC Junior coaches and Ossy Juniors coaches. Entry is free and the bar will be open and food available.

Weekend teams

This season we have a double Looking Back Feature going back to 1993 when Neil Johnson was professional and also to 2013 when the club won the Lancashire League title for the last time with Ashar Zaidi as professional.

In 1993 it was yet another mixed weekend. On Saturday July 10th Accrington lost at home to Todmorden by 7 wickets. This was followed by an 8 wicket win at Rawtenstall on Sunday July 11th thanks to an outstanding all round performance by professional Neil Johnson.

In 2013 league leaders Accrington suffered a second successive defeat at East Lancs on Saturday July 6th to see their lead at the top of the table cut to 21 points after 13 games. The following day Sunday July 7th a 30 run win over Rishton at Thorneyholme Road saw the lead increased to 23 points.
