Accrington returned to winning ways after successive defeats to increase their lead at the top of the table to 23 points after picking up maximum points with a 30 run win over Rishton at Thorneyholme Road. Sam Excell top scored with 44 after being promoted to open the innings in the absence of the injured Simon Hanson. Excell hit four fours and faced 91 balls. Professional Ashar Zaidi (33), Aijaz Shah (25), Matt Wilson (23) and Marley Ali (16) also chipped in to take Accrington to 167 all out. Rishton professional Daniel Salpietro took 4-50 and Kelly Mall 2-28. Salpietro held the Rishton reply together hitting 63 from 109 balls but he was unable to reach the boundary before falling to a brilliant catch by Excell at point. Richard Rostron made 27 and Craig Smith 10 but Zaidi took 4-35, Jimmy Hayhurst 3-32 and Jacob Clarke 2-19 to dismiss Rishton for 137. David Ormerod's wait for victim number 1300 goes on but he moved on to 1299 by trapping Shaun Wyse lbw for 1. The win was Accrington's twelfth in a row against Rishton in the league.
