Accrington v Darwen
Neil Cordingley's best Lancashire League bowling figures helped league leaders Darwen to a 7 wicket win at Accrington. The win means that Darwen will finish on top of the table at the conclusion of the Phase 1 fixtures. Cordingley took 6-22 with three of Alex Davies' five catches coming off the medium pacer. Professional Calvin Savage (2-9) and the league's leading amateur wicket taker Dave Bowden (2-7) both chipped in with a couple of wickets to dismiss the home side for 64 in the 32nd over. Home professional Michael Erlank's nightmare continued when he was the first victim of the Cordingley-Davies combination with the score on 8 when he had made 5. Four runs later Keiren Grimshaw followed without scoring in identical fashion. Jacob Clarke was clean bowled by Cordingley for 4 at 23. Opener Graeme Sneddon had made 23 of the 40 runs on the board when he was caught behind by Davies in spectacular style again off Cordingley. Jon Hayhurst (2) followed 2 runs later when he chipped Cordingley to Chris Wade. Skipper Simon Hanson hung around for 29 balls but when he had made 7 he too was caught behind by Davies this time off Savage with the score on 44. Alfie Taylor (2) also fell at 44, caught by Bowden off Cordingley and Ross Brown became Davies' fifth victim when he edged Savage to the Lancashire gloveman. Sam Bancroft (3) fell to Bowden without addition but the last pair Jimmy Hayhurst and David Ormerod equalled the best stand of the innings, putting on 17 before Hayhurst was caught by John Cordingley off Bowden for 3. Ormerod finished unbeaten on 10. It took Darwen 15.2 overs to knock off the runs for the loss of Ammer Mirza, Reece Willets and Scott Friend. Mirza (7) pulled a Jimmy Hayhurst long hop to Taylor at square leg at 19. Willets edged Ormerod to Erlank at slip for 15 and Scott Friend was caught by Ormerod off Erlank for 16. Alex Davies hit two fours and a six in an unbeaten 20 to see Darwen to victory. The result means that Accrington will be in Division B for the Phase 2 fixtures.
