Accrington were on top again for a short time after beating Burnley by 3 wickets at Thorneyholme Road but had to settle for the Holland Cup for the second season running. Professional Ashar Zaidi celebrated signing a contract to return next season with another all round match winning performance. Zaidi took 6-35 and David Ormerod picked up 4-47 to dismiss Burnley for 103. The visitors were well placed on 76-3 when a short shower livened up the wicket and sparked a collapse that saw the last 7 wickets fall for just 27 runs. Qasim Ali top scored with 26 and former skipper Steve Brunt made 18. Accrington skipper Graham Lloyd took three catches to finish as the league's top fielder with 17 catches. Burnley professional Adnan Rasool sent back Stuart Crabtree for 5 with 6 on the board but he couldn't add to his tally finishing with 95 wickets for the season. Graham Lalor (3-27) removed Marley Ali (12), Aijaz Shah (6) and Andy Greenwood (0) to have the home supporters on the edge of their seats but Zaidi hit seven fours and three sixes in making 57 from 64 balls before falling to Bharat Tripathi with victory in sight. It was Graeme Sneddon who hit the winning runs to see Accrington to the top of the pile but it was not to last.
