Accrington professional Nishit Shetty hit a blistering unbeaten 155 to inspire his new club to a 79 run opening day victory over Colne on a day of surprises, not least of which was the appearance of sunshine as the season got off to a scorching start. Shetty hit 13 boundaries and six sixes off just 149 balls as Accrington piled up 242-3 with skipper Matt Wilson (39) adding 103 for the 3rd wicket after Shetty and Graeme Sneddon had put together a 2nd wicket stand of 75. Adam Wilson (3 not out) then helped his professional to add 60 in an unbroken 4th wicket stand. Colne's reply began at a typically hectic pace with the 50 coming up in the 10th over. Matt Wilson hit three fours and three sixes in making 47 before being stumped by James Ormerod off Damian Clarke when the first wicket fell in the 15th over at 75. Jeff Ellis (21) followed without addition to the total when David Ormerod picked up his first senior wicket for Accrington. Sub professional Gyan Pandey hit two sixes in a cameo knock of 16 before holing out to Ormerod on the boundary in attempting a third off Clarke. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Ormerod picking up 4-42, Zahir Afzal 3-56 and Clarke 3-48 to put Accrington on top of the table by virtue of alphabetical order. Stuart Lemon made 21 and John Lambert 17 in Colne's 163 all out. Shetty's innings was the highest on debut by an Accrington player and the third highest ever by an Accrington professional behind Charlie Llewellyn (188*) and Ryan Campbell (157*).
