Weekend Preview
Wednesday May 31st 2023

The weekend again starts on Friday with a 2020 JWL Bitter Group game at Great Harwood. Professional Jacob Clarke leads the side that also includes Simon Hanson.

Accrington travel to Greenmount on Sunday. Greenmount beat Great Harwood in a record breaking game last Sunday piling up a new league record score of 429-6. Accrington followed Saturday's Worsley Cup defeat at Middleton with a home loss to Crompton. Greenmount have won both the previous two league meetings between the clubs in 2021.

Wicketkeeper Matt Donnelly comes in for his first game of the season for Greenmount in place of Adam Clarke. Accrington make three changes with Ben Gorton, Matt Taylor and Mohammed Tayyib replacing skipper Graeme Sneddon, Jon Hayhurst and Asad Khan. Ben Gorton will lead the side.

The seconds host Greenmount in the reverse fixture.

The thirds travel to Nelson on Saturday.

The club is looking for an umpire and a scorer for Saturday's 3rd XI game at Nelson.

Weekend teams

This season we have a double Looking Back Feature going back to 1993 when Neil Johnson was professional and also to 2013 when the club won the Lancashire League title for the last time with Ashar Zaidi as professional.

In 1993 Accrington fell to a fourth successive league defeat and a fifth in all games going down to Nelson at Thorneyholme Road by 9 wickets.

Accrington continued to march on in 2013 with an eighth win in a row and twelfth in succession this time at Church on Sunday June 2nd to increase their lead at the top of the table to 22 points.
