Church v Accrington
League leaders Accrington increased their lead at the top of the table to 22 points after beating Church by 56 runs at West End. Professional Ashar Zaidi top scored with 83 in Accrington's 210-9 and the all rounder then took 5-38 to restrict Church to 154 all out. Zaidi hit ten fours and three sixes. He shared a 2nd wicket stand of 81 with Simon Hanson (24) after the early loss of Andy Greenwood (0). Stand-in skipper Stuart Crabtree made his first half century of the season, hitting 61 with seven fours, putting on 73 with Zaidi. Harvey Aspin took a league best 5-21 and wicketkeeper Sam Tucker claimed five victims to pass the 400 mark for Church. Openers Levi Wolfenden (23) and Sam Holt (26) set about the Accrington attack with a purpose, hitting 46 off the first ten overs. Zaidi then got to work dismissing Holt, professional Kasun Bodhisha (20), Lloyd Aspin (14), Andy Bentley (12) and last man Jack Gaskill (0) whilst the returning David Ormerod accounted for Wolfenden. Skipper Craig Fergusson battled away whilst wickets tumbled around him making 24 singles and a six which included four overthrows in his 74 ball unbeaten 30. Jacob Clarke took a league best 3-15 to help Zaidi wrap up the tail. Accrington's win was the clubs eighth this season and twelfth in succession. The battle of the second and third placed clubs at Acre Bottom went the way of Haslingden but their 4 wicket victory over Ramsbottom enabled Accrington to increase their lead to 22 points after 8 matches. |
