Weekend Preview

The second half of the season gets underway on Sunday with Accrington taking on bottom club Nelson at The Property Shop Arena. Nelson notched a first win of the season last Sunday against Bacup whilst Accrington were well beaten by Middleton. Accrington won the opening day clash by 11 runs. Accrington make a couple of changes with Jimmy Hayhurst and Matt Taylor replacing Andy Greenwood and Damian Clarke. Ben Gorton will keep wicket. Harry Waddington replaces Armaan Moghul in the Nelson team.

The seconds travel to Nelson in the reverse fixture on Sunday.

The thirds have no game this weekend.

The club is looking for an umpire and a scorer for this game and for the remainder of the season.

Weekend teams

This season we have a double Looking Back Feature going back to 1993 when Neil Johnson was professional and also to 2013 when the club won the Lancashire League title for the last time with Ashar Zaidi as professional.

In 1993 it was another mixed weekend. On Saturday July 3rd Accrington lost to Bacup by 9 wickets at Thorneyholme Road. This was followed by a welcome 5 wicket win at Rishton on Sunday July 4th.

In 2013 league leaders Accrington's fifteen match club record winning streak ended with a 20 run defeat at Ramsbottom on Sunday June 30th.
