Ramsbottom ended Accrington's club record 15 match winning run with a 20 run win at Acre Bottom. Steve Dearden top scored with 75 from 96 balls in Ramsbottom's 197-9. Surprisingly Dearden didn't find the boundary once having to be content with ones and twos along with a couple of trademark sixes in the quest for quick runs at the end of the innings. In fact Ramsbottom hit just eight boundaries as Accrington restricted the runs on a flat wicket. Home professional Pieter Malan found the boundary just once in making 40 from 99 balls. Skipper Jon Fielding made 19 in a 6th wicket stand of 41 with Dearden senior to up the tempo. Accrington professional Ashar Zaidi took 3-62. Michael Haslam removed Marley Ali (12) at 20 and Sam Halstead (2-15) got his reward for a fine opening spell by picking up Zaidi before the Pakistani had scored. He also picked up Graeme Sneddon for 9 and Haslam returned to trap Stuart Crabtree lbw for 20 after the Accrington vice captain had added 43 with Simon Hanson. Aijaz Shah then holed out to Halstead at long off who took a brilliant one handed catch with his left hand as the ball seemingly was about to sail over his head to the boundary. Skipper Graham Lloyd was soon snapped up by Haslam for 6 but Matt Wilson put Accrington back in contention with a swift 23. Opener Hanson was last man out for 85, including a dozen boundaries from 137 balls as Accrington tasted defeat in the league for the first time in eleven months. Malan (3-34) and Haslam (3-41) both picked up 3 wickets apiece to allow Ramsbottom to move 8 points closer to Accrington back on fourth place.
