Andre's
catch of the day
On Tuesday August 6th, 50 club members made the trip to Old Trafford to
see Lancashire Lightning play Hampshire Hawks. Andre Seymore made the
catch of the day by holding on to a Graham Lloyd six, hit off Shaun Udal,
right into the middle of the Accrington contingent. Now what would be
the odds on that happening?
FAMILY
FUN DAY
Help is needed on the day Monday August 26th. Tombola prizes are also
in short supply. Help is also needed in selling raffle tickets. This is
the club's major fund raising day and vital to our future prospects. All
members are urged to support the various activities being undertaken.
The Fun Day action starts at 10 am with an Under 11s match between the
Lancashire League and Ribblesdale League. The Fun Day itself begins at
12 noon.
Beach
Party
Ever the optimists we are holding a Beach Party on Saturday August 24th
after the home game with Burnley. Admission is £2.50 and there is a disco
and barbie. A karaoke has also been booked for the final Sunday of the
season.
Performances
The day after captaining the seconds in their losing Cup Final against
Ramsbottom, Len Dewhurst turned in not one but two career best performances.
After hitting 47 with the bat, Len then took 8-33 in a 15 run win. Mohsin
Ahmed should become the first amateur since Mark Aspin in 1994 to score
500 runs in a season. Andre Seymore has now passed 50 on ten occasions
this season. Andre is now level with Graham Beech who did the same in
his record breaking season in 1981. Bobby Simpson is still some way off
though with 16 in 1959.
FIXTURES
The three outstanding 3rd XI matches have been given new dates. On Saturday
August 17th, the 3rds play Haslingden, on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August
they play Enfield and finally on August 31st they play Rawtenstall. All
the games are away from home.
PAST PROS
Former Accrington professional Rod Tucker is to become a First Class umpire.
Tucker will be fast tracked into the role along with ex East Lancs professional
Paul Reiffel in an initiative by the ACB to attract former players into
the job. Another former Accrington professional, Ryan Campbell has been
selected for the Australian A squad to play a One Day series in South
Africa in September. Also included in the squad are Michael Clarke of
Ramsbottom and Mark Higgs, the Church professional.
JUNIOR CRICKET
The Under 17s play Rishton in the second round of the cup at home on Monday
August 19th. The Under 11s rounded off their fixtures with an 8 run win
over East Lancs on Tuesday. Saf's Boys have won 3 and lost 4. Both the
Under 13s and 15s are in contention at the top of their respective sections.
Both teams have records of won 8 and lost 1. The Under 13s play next at
East Lancs on Monday. The latest up to date results and reports of all
the teams matches can be found on the club website at www. accringtoncc.co.uk.
It is your site so please contribute to it. Feedback is most welcome.
TRACK SUITS
The new track suits can be ordered from Peter Barratt or Ian Wilson. A
full track suit is £65 with tops £45. Duncan Warburton is taking orders
for cricket sweaters and shirts in club colours. Club caps are also available
at £8 each and Lancs League ties, priced at £5 can also be obtained from
Duncan. New club pens are also available for only 50 pence.
