Accrington v Haslingden

Haslingden won the toss and elected to bat first in a 16 over game.

We started well by dismissing the two Haslingden openers cheaply, this followed a steady flow of wickets for us, to keep Haslingden to 77 - 6 after their 16 overs.

Each one of the bowlers took a wicket and Simon Hanson grabbed two.

Accrington Bowling

T. Hussain - 4 - 13 - 1
M. Donnelly - 3 - 17 - 1
S. Hanson - 3 - 14 - 2
W. Ahmed - 4 - 19 - 1
F. Khan - 2 - 11 - 1

Chasing 78 for victory we started strongly with W. Ahmed blasting 16 off the first two overs. But soon R. Williams, J.Ormerod and W. Ahmed fell to the same bowler in the space of three overs. This brought A.Greenwood and M. Donnelly to the crease who together put on a 50 run partenership. But with 5 to win from 5 overs Donnelly was caught in the deep. This brought S.Hanson to the wicket, but he didn't get a chance to face a single ball as the game was won for Accrington from a wide, with 4 overs to spare.

Monday June 27th Longridge
Longridge won the toss and elected to bat first in a 20 over game. They managed to finish with 129 with the help from some average bowling displays and terrible fielding (29 extras)

S.Hanson - 4 - 19 - 1
T.Hussain - 4 - 23 - 0
M.Schofield - 4 - 18 - 0
W.Ahmed - 4 - 19 - 2
A.Javed - 2 -14- 0
M.Donnelly - 2 - 17 - 0

In reply we didn't have a great start-losing opener James Ormerod for 1 and when Longridge brought their spinner on, who was bowling full tosses directly into the sun to avoid our batsmen seeing the bowl, Richard Williams was the victim, being caught for 9. Andi Greenwood then joined Waqas Ahmed at the crease who had already raced to 30, but when he was dismissed for a well played 49 it sparked a collapse of the middle order with Matt Donnelly, Simon Hanson and Mark Williams all out cheaply. With 50 runs required off the last three overs Greenwood decided to cut loose hitting two huge sixes. But it wasn't enough for Accrington who suffered their first defeat of the season finishing 8 runs short of their target. Very unfortunate considering the conditions of the sun.

W.Ahmed  - 49
J.Ormerod - 1
R.Williams - 9
A.Greenwood - 33*
M.Donnelly - 2
S.Hanson - 0
M.Williams - 1
T.Hussain - 3*

Monday June 20th Enfield (home)
Accrington won the toss and decided to have a bat for the first time this season, the team managers agreed to play a twenty over match.

Accrington Innings
We opened the batting with Sagawat Hussain and James Ormerod, but James was dismissed early in the innings for 5. This brought Waqas Ahmed to the crease who put on a decent partnership with Sagawat before being out LBW for 10. Sagawat soon raced to his fifty with some clean hitting and so had to retire. The two players now at the crease were Richard Williams and Matt Donnelly who put on another good partnership before Richard was dismissed for 9. Simon Hanson then unleashed three consecutive boundaries to add to the growing total before Matt Donnelly was bowled for 16 off the penultimate bowl of the innings, this brought Andrew Greenwood to the crease with just one bowl to face, who managed to scramble a single. Simon Hanson finished with 13 not out and the final score was 130 -4.

Enfield Innings
The opening bowlers Sagawat Hussain and Simon Hanson started strongly taking early wickets and after eight overs Enfield were five wickets down with only about thirty five runs scored. S Hussain finishing with figures of (4 overs 13 runs 3 wickets) and S Hanson (4 overs 19 runs 2 Wickets). Faisel Khan then replaced Sagawat and bowled well off his three overs finishing with (3 overs 25 runs 1 wicket)and Aquib Javed replaced Simon Hanson and bowled very well off four overs finishing with (4 overs 25 runs 1 wicket). Enfield needed 52 runs off five overs and naturally started to play their shots so first team bowler Waqas Ahmed and Matt Donnelly were brought on to bowl the final overs. In the end Enfield ran out of batsmen with one of their players scoring fifty and being forced to retire and the team still requiring 20 more runs to win. Waqas Ahmed finishing with figures of (2.4 overs 19 runs 0 wickets) and Matt Donnelly (1 over 5 runs 0 wickets).

A deserved third win for Accrington who are due to travel to Longridge on the 27th for their next game.

Monday May 16th Rawtenstall (away)

Rawtenstall won the toss and elected to bat first in a 16 over match.

A fine bowling performance from Waqas Ahmed who finished with three wickets and Faizel Khan one wicket.

With 105 needed for victory Accrington started brightly with the two openers Waqas Ahmed and Richard Williams both getting into double figures before being dismissed. This brought Simon Hanson and Andy Greenwood to the wicket with around fifty runs required off 8 overs for victory. The two put on a fifty partnership to seal victory in the last over for Accrington, Simon Hanson hitting a six to win the game. The second win of the season for the under 17s. Another great team performance.
