Accrington Under 11s 2013

Start with 200 runs – minus 6 runs for every wicket lost

U11 V CHURCH A
MONDAY 22 APRIL
ACCRINGTON 292 – 0 WICKETS,  CHURCH 195 – 5 WICKETS

Typical cricket weather of wind and drizzle welcomed the start of the new Junior season at West End on  Monday night, where the U11 put in a fine all round performance to record the first win of the season. They batted through their innings without losing a wicket and performed just as well in the field. Zeus just about managed to hold the rain off as expected but he couldn’t match the heroics of the Church umpire who took a fine catch, an incident that the batter Ben Ross did not see the funny side of. Despite the inclement weather the team were well supported by a hardcore of approximately 20 fans, constituting some of the great who’s who of Accrington CC, parents grandparents and a lone harmonica playing Maroon 5’s greatest hits.

Tuesday 7th May, Accy v Lowerhouse

Accrington narrowly lost to Lowerhouse by 7 runs in a close fought encounter that had the punters on the edge of their seats.

Harrison and Joshua both hit 8 runs and Bailey and Ben put on a partnership of 30 without losing a wicket.

Our bowling was good all round with very few extras given away.

Unfortunately it was not to be our night as Lowerhouse edged over the line 248 runs to 241, leaving the Accrington faithful to rue our slack marking at corners!

Monday 13th May, Accy v East Lancs (Cup)

A strange night at Thorneyholme Road as our opponents opted to play 24 ball overs in arctic temperatures.  It was testimony to both teams resilience that no one was lost to frost bite and/or wind burn in this grueling 36 hour contest.

We narrowly lost by 284 runs to 206 but we can put this down to our unfamiliarity with this highly controversial new cricket concept which I am reliably informed is shortly to be adopted by the ECB and brought into first class cricket for next season.

Finally an update on our world famous lone harmonica.  As luck would have it a talent scout was in attendance at our match at Church and immediately offered our harmonica a record deal.  He is currently on a 10 date tour of Southern Europe but will soon be back in attendance at Accrington playing classics such as "Dreadlock Holiday" and "Upper Gangnam Style."
