An unbeaten half century by Ashar Zaidi steered Norden to the Second Round of the Worsley Cup at the expense of his former club Accrington. Norden professional Zaidi hit an unbeaten 59 from 78 balls with four fours and two sixes to seal an 8 wicket win at the Property Shop Arena. An opening spell of 3-31 from 10 overs by Chris Humphreys had Accrington in early trouble with the medium pacer picking up the wickets of Matt Wilson (3), professional Lasith Lakshan (0) and Tom Walker (7). Zaidi picked up the wicket of opener Stuart Crabtree (15) in conceding just 6 runs from 7 overs. Mutan Saeed (4-24) bowled his best senior spell picking up Jon Hayhurst (6), Toby Bulcock (2), Yousuf Ali (0) and stand-in skipper Jimmy Hayhurst (16). George Mills was run out for 1 and it took a late flourish from Hayhurst, Riley Armstrong (15 not out) and Matt Taylor (9) to double the score for the last 2 wickets..Walker gave Accrington a glimmer of hope by removing openers Josh Tolley (4) and Joe Humphreys (5) but Steve Pimm (24 not out) and Zaidi put on an unbroken 87 for the 3rd wicket to seal victory in the 27th over.
