Church won a thrilling local derby at Accrington by 1 wicket with just two balls to spare. Joel Gaskill was the hero for Church hitting a match winning unbeaten 37 batting at number seven. Matt Wilson celebrated his 400th Lancashire League game for Accrington by making 43 out of the 66 runs scored whilst he was at the crease from the top of the order. Wilson hit seven fours. Church skipper Levi Wolfenden struck early to send back former team-mate Stuart Crabtree without scoring at 20. New professional Lasith Lakshan's Lancashire League career got off to the worst possible start when he was trapped in front off Wolfenden's next ball. Tom Walker made 4 out of 21 in a 3rd wicket stand with Wilson when he was trapped in front by Andrew Bentley. Six runs later Andy Greenwood was caught by Phill Gilrane off Bentley for 1. Wilson was clean bowled by Liam Dyson at 66. Toby Bulcock and Jon Hayhurst steadied the innings with a 6th wicket stand of 73 before Bentley cleaned up Hayhurst for 31. Three runs later Bulcock fell to Bentley for 45. The medium pacer picked up his 5th wicket by clean bowling stand in skipper Jimmy Hayhurst (6) at 158. George Mills hit an unbeaten 13 on his senior debut as Accrington closed on 164-8 in a 43 overs a-side game. Church's reply got off to good start with Craig Fergusson and Sam Holt putting on 58 for the 1st wicket. Lakshan (3-36) picked up his first Lancashire League wicket by having Holt caught behind by Wilson for 27. Two runs later Bulcock trapped Fergusson in front for 20. Lakshan then removed Wolfenden (4) at 78 and Trivedi (18) at 81. Walker picked up Josh Scully (8) and Phill Gilrane (7) to put Accrington back in the game at 105-6. Bentley (6) put on 25 with Gaskill for the 7th wicket before falling to Jimmy Hayhurst who then trapped Ryan North in front off his next ball. Dyson and Gaskill added a vital 29 for the 9th wicket before Dyson was caught behind by Wilson off Bulcock for 3. Last man Sam Tucker and Gaskill edged Church over the line with just two balls left to consign Accrington to a third successive defeat.
