Accrington v Rishton
On another rain affected August day, Accrington beat Rishton by 25 runs at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington recovered from 40-5 to post a competitive 144-5 thanks to an unbroken 6th wicket stand of 104 between Jacob Clarke and Andrew Greenwood. Brad Boddie made early inroads for Rishton by removing Alfie Taylor without scoring with the total on 2. Rishton skipper Matt Lambert then sent back Accrington professional Michael Erlank who made a ten ball duck in his last innings for the club before returning home. Lambert (3-27) also dismissed his opposite number Simon Hanson (8) and Keiren Grimshaw (14) with Danny Briggs trapping Graeme Sneddon for 1 to have the home side in trouble at 40-5 in the 16th over. Clarke and Greenwood fought back slowly gaining the upper hand against an all amateur attack. Clarke finished unbeaten on 56 with three fours and two sixes from 90 balls, passing 1,000 Lancashire League runs in his first league half century of the season. Greenwood made a career best unbeaten 45 with five fours from the 80 balls that he faced. Ross Brown then took a club best 5-24 to restrict Rishton to 119-8. Clarke removed Matt Nuttall (1) and Hanson accounted for Chris Sanderson (14). Brown claimed his first victim when he clean bowled Jack Hilton (4) and then had Boddie (2) stumped by Sam Bancroft. Stand-in professional Craig Smith and Richie Fox added 50 for the 5th wicket before Brown had Fox caught by Hanson for a career best 25. Former Accrington player Ali Hasham followed next ball. Smith's valiant 68 ball innings came to an end at 113 when he became Brown's fifth victim, having hit two fours and a six in making 39. Clarke removed Myra Lunat (3) at 118 leaving skipper Lambert and Kelly Mall to play out the formalities with Rishton closing on 119-8.
