Accrington ended Burnley's record breaking five year unbeaten run in the Worsley Cup with a 26 run victory at Thorneyholme Road on a dramatic day of broken records and shock results. Jacob Clarke was the match winner following up a brilliant unbeaten innings of 53 with spell of 2-33 which included the vital wicket of Burnley professional Chris Holt. Accrington closed on 155-7 after losing openers Ramiz Hussain (2) and skipper Simon Hanson (12) and professional Michael Erlank (0) cheaply. An unbeaten half century from Clarke kept Accrington in contention. Clarke hit five fours in making 53 from 92 balls, adding 36 for the 4th wicket with Keiren Grimshaw (19), 34 for the 5th with Graeme Sneddon (19) and 40 for the 6th wicket with Asef Mahmood who hit two sixes in his innings of 23. Cole Hayman took 3-23 and Jhangir Liaqat 2-42 for Burnley. David Ormerod rolled back the years with a 10 over spell that reduced the cup holders to 28-5. The veteran took 3-12, sending back Matt Roberts (0), Joe Marshall (1) and Michael Kelly (2). Erlank (2-13) also opened the bowling dismissing skipper Dan Pickup (1) and David Brown (0). Holt though stood firm, making 53 from 94 balls until wicketkeeper Sam Bancroft held a catch off Clarke. Liaqat made an unbeaten 30 but Clarke bowled last man Liam Bedford, who came in last due to a finger injury sustained whilst keeping wicket, to secure an historic victory for Accrington.
