Ramsbottom lost their unbeaten record in their 22nd match of the season, going down by 5 runs to Accrington in a rain reduced contest at Thorneyholme Road. Ramsbottom picked up 7 points to regain the lead from Burnley who were playing in the LCB Cup semi finals at Denton West. The match began on time with Ramsbottom asking the home side to take first use of a green but firm surface. Ramsbottom bowled Accrington out for 105 on a cool grey afternoon at Thorneyholme Road. Michael Haslam picked up 4-33, Tom Booth 3-36, professional Daryn Smit 2-23 and Josh Dentith 1-6. Jon Hayhurst top scored with a season's best 23 for Accrington. Keiren Grimshaw was first to go for 2 caught behind by Tom Parton off Haslam for with the score on 7. Graeme Sneddon was next to go, chipping Haslam to Fraser Kay at mid wicket for 7 with 18 on the board. Professional Ockert Erasmus soon followed caught behind by Parton off Booth for 7 at 31. Opener Jacob Clarke (8) had just hit his first boundary after facing 34 balls when he was also snapped up by Parton this time off Haslam with 39 on the board. Six runs later Andy Greenwood was bowled by Haslam for 4. Jon Hayhurst joined Simon Hanson and the left handed pair put on 23, the best stand of the innings. Booth returned at the Highams End to trap Hanson in front for 15. Matt Wilson briefly rolled back the years with a pull to the boundary off Booth but the seamer had his revenge when Wilson chipped him to Michael Howarth in the covers for 6. Josh Dentith replaced Booth and had Jon Hayhurst taken at slip by Smit for 23 which included a straight six off the Ramsbottom professional. Smit then finished off the innings by holding a return catch off Alfie Taylor (5) and then clean bowling Joe Lloyd (0) to clinch the bowling points. Jimmy Hayhurst was unbeaten on 10. Ramsbottom were soon in trouble with Clarke having Parton caught behind by Taylor for 1 with the total on 3. Taylor was in action again when Jimmy Hayhurst found the edge of Howarth's (0) bat at 10. Five runs later Sneddon snapped up Will Turner (2) at slip off Hayhurst. The crucial wicket of Smit was the next to fall when he was bowled by his opposite number Erasmus for 11 with the score on 38. One run later Clarke trapped Dale Gabriel (0) in front. The Kay brothers Callum (28 not out) and Fraser (12 not out) had put on 45 when rain forced the players from the field and Ramsbottom's long unbeaten was over. Clarke took 2-16 from 14 overs, Jimmy Hayhurst 2-25 from 9 overs and Erasmus 1-26 from 12 overs.
