Rawtenstall v Accrington
Another dramatic game at Rawtenstall saw Accrington beat last season's runners up in the Worsley Cup for the first time since 1986. Just eight days after losing by just 7 runs, Accrington looked to be heading out of the cup at the first hurdle when they slumped to 30-5 chasing the home sides 114 all out. A 6th wicket stand of 64 between Jacob Clarke, who recorded a senior best for the second day running, and Ramiz Hussain turned the match Accrington's way. Clarke made 38 from 99 balls, hitting three fours and a six before being caught and bowled by Daniel Whittle who was making his senior debut for Rawtenstall. Hussain followed at 108 with just 7 needed and it was Graeme Sneddon (11 not out) and Ali Hasham who saw Accrington over the line. Jimmy Hayhurst had earlier taken 3-18, David Ormerod 2-13, Keiren Grimshaw 2-11 and Clarke 2-53 with home professional Brett Pelser top scoring with 31. Youngsters Daniel Southworth and George Bevan hit 26 apiece in a 2nd wicket stand of 27. No one else made double figures as Rawtenstall fell from 85-3 to 114 all out, the final 3 wickets falling at the same score. Pelser (3-19) and Rizwan Shafiq struck back with only Matt Wilson's 14 at the top of the order offering any resistance. Keith Roscoe bowled a tight spell taking 2-7 from 9 overs, 7 of which were maidens.
