Accrington's poor start to the season continued when they lost at Nelson by 48 runs. The home side made 170 in a 48 overs a-side game. Russell Bradley hit six fours in making 48, adding 50 in an opening stand with his brother Lewis (18). Nelson professional Keshav Maharaj made 24 and skipper Neil Thompson 16. Accrington professional Ockert Erasmus took 5-44 and David Ormerod 4-19 but a total of 41 extras, including 20 wides cost Accrington dear. Openers Ramiz Hussain (1) and Matt Wilson (1) were soon back in the pavilion but Erasmus and Keiren Grimshaw took the total to 39. Erasmus fell to Thompson for 15 and Grimshaw fell to Maharaj for 18. Skipper Stuart Crabtree (0) and Graeme Sneddon (1) followed to the South African as the visitors slipped to 43-6 after 21 overs. Ali Hasham (10) and Jacob Clarke put on 28 and then Jon Hayhurst (19) and Clarke put on 43 to take the score to 114. Clarke made a career best 31 with Jimmy Hayhurst (6 not out) and Ormerod (1) denying Nelson the bonus points as Accrington finished on 122-9. Maharaj took 5-28 from 17 overs.
