Accrington's Fosters Worsley Cup Final dreams were shattered by Nelson at Seedhill. The home side reached the Fosters Worsley Cup Final for the fifteenth time after beating Accrington by 8 wickets. Sub professional Qaiser Abbas took 4-8, Richard Meade 4-16 and Sam Halstead 2-24 to dismiss Accrington for just 51. Openers Lewis and Russell Bradley put on 19 before Accrington professional Ockert Erasmus (2-26) had Lewis caught at short leg by skipper Graeme Sneddon for 12. Erasmus also bowled Russell for 26 at 46 and then Harrison Phelan (11 not out) and Abbas saw Nelson through to the final at 4.03pm. The match began in sensational fashion with Accrington, who made 316-5 against Rishton the previous day 24-6 with Meade and Halstead on fire. Meade struck the first blow by trapping Matt Wilson (0) in front with just 4 on the board. Skipper Sneddon was next to go caught by Lewis Bradley off Meade for 10 with the score on 14. Six runs later Meade cleaned up Jacob Clarke for 8 and then Halstead took the vital wicket of Erasmus at 22 before he had scored. One run later Halstead clean bowled Ali Hasham for 2. Meade then sent back Stuart Crabtree for 0 to have Accrington in dire straits on 24-7. Jon Hayhurst (11) and Keiren Grimshaw (10) at last offered some resistance, adding 21 for the 7th wicket before Abbas trapped Grimshaw. Hayhurst was then bowled by Abbas at 46. Abbas quickly ended the innings of Ramiz Hussain and David Ormerod with neither batsman troubling the scorers to leave Jimmy Hayhurst unbeaten on 5.

Team manager Ian Wilson: "It has been a disappointing day for everybody at Accrington Cricket Club, it is difficult to understand how a team who have been in such a rich vein of form can put in such a poor performance in such an important game. All credit must go to Nelson for a terrific bowling performance which decimated the Accrington innings, leaving their batsmen with a fairly easy target to chase. Without doubt we were outplayed today and we wish Nelson good luck in the final against Burnley."
