Lancashire League champions Accrington went down to a 10 run home defeat to East Lancs. Chris Riley top scored with 43 in East Lancs' 168-9. Riley faced 105 balls and managed just one boundary, steadying the innings after the early loss of Mini Bhada (0) and professional Matthew Kleinveldt (3) who were both caught behind by Matt Wilson off Jimmy Hayhurst and David Ormerod respectively. Riley joined opener Dan Lord to add 55 for the 3rd wicket before Lord became the first of three run outs for 24. John Turner upped the tempo with 18 before top edging Ockert Erasmus to Wilson who took a fine diving catch after running back towards the third man boundary. Veteran David Pearson made 14 before being superbly run out by a direct hit by Erasmus running in from point. Riley was also run out at 120 and then Mo Bhada was well held by skipper Stuart Crabtree low down at mid on off Jacob Clarke for 13. Dave Turner made a few big hits in his ten but an unbroken last wicket stand of 26 between Nick Turner (18 not out) and skipper Mark Bolton (8 not out) turned out to be the match winning stand. Turner was missed twice in the last over as the visitors moved on to 168-9. Erasmus took 3-64 against his former club. Former Accrington junior Shahrukh Khan then celebrated his Lancashire League debut by taking 4-43 to bowl the champions out for 158. The paceman removed Graeme Sneddon (2) and Matt Wilson (12) early on. Simon Hanson was run out for 18 and Minhaj Bhada removed Erasmus for 19. Kleinveldt picked up skipper Crabtree (5) and Sam Excell (0) to have the champions struggling on 88-6. Jacob Clarke teamed up with Graham Lloyd to add 33 for the 7th wicket with Lloyd hitting five fours in his 39 before falling to Minhaj Bhada. Clarke (17) and Bryn Hargreaves (19) added another 34 before Khan returned to dismiss them both. Hayhurst was also run out off a no ball.
