Accrington got off the mark with a 2 wicket win over Rishton at Thorneyholme Road in the other Group A game. Shaun Wyse made 25, professional Daniel Salpietro 18, Mark Leathert 16 and skipper Shaun Hutchinson 14 in Rishton's 118 all out. Accrington professional Ashar Zaidi took 3-17, all his wickets coming in his final over at a cost of just 2 runs. Liam Smalley also had a fine spell with the ball taking 2-9 from his 4 overs. Zaidi then laid into the Rishton attack in the power play, smashing 43 from just 18 balls. He hit four fours and four sixes as Garth Wyse's second over went for 33 runs - 6, 6, wide, 6, 4, 4, 6. Wickets tumbled at the other end though as Salpietro took 3-6 from 3 overs but Simon Hanson added 28 to his 2-20 to earn the Man of the match award as Accrington staggered over the line with youngsters Jacob Clarke (8 not out) and Sam Tattersall (3 not out) at the crease.
