An unbeaten century by Ashar Zaidi took Accrington closer to the Lancashire League title after a 6 wicket win at Haslingden. In the week that it was announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, Zaidi hit a brilliant unbeaten 138 as Accrington strolled to victory with more the 13 overs in hand chasing down Haslingden's 230-4. Half centuries by home professional Brenton Parchment, who made 53 from 60 balls with two fours and a six and an unbeaten 53 by Lee Ingham who hit four fours and two sixes from just 36 balls set Accrington a seemingly huge target. Jack Taylor also made 48, skipper Graham Knowles 29, Matt Griffin an unbeaten 21 and Phil Hayes 12 on a good batting wicket. Accrington's reply got off to a nightmare start with Jack Sudworth (2-37) sending back both Sam Excell and Simon Hanson in the first over without scoring. Zaidi and Aijaz Shah set about repairing the damage with runs coming at a brisk pace. The pair put on 112 when Shah was caught behind by Alex Marcroft off Jordan Shannon for 37. Stuart Crabtree made 16 before being stumped by Marcroft off Shannon and at the halfway point Accrington were 161-4. Marley Ali (25) joined Zaidi in a match winning unbroken 5th wicket stand of 93 to see Accrington to victory. Zaidi's innings included seventeen fours and five sixes from just 111 balls. His century was a club record fourth of the season and leaves him needing 262 more runs to beat Bobby Simpson's record of 1444 runs in 1959. The result means that Accrington need just 8 points from five matches to win the title after Lowerhouse lost at Rishton.
