Accrington smashed a 38 year-old club record to go 24 points clear at the top of the table after beating East Lancs by 7 wickets at Thorneyholme Road on a day when the other six matches were all rained off without play. The match began as a 29 overs a-side match at 3.30pm but after East Lancs had made 13-0 in five overs on winning the toss the rain came down again. Six overs were lost and on resumption both Bhada brothers fell to David Ormerod at 14 and 23. Mo made 5 and Minhaj 10 before falling to catches by Aijaz Shah and home professional Ashar Zaidi respectively. East Lancs skipper and professional Ockert Erasmus held the innings together with a fine unbeaten 44 from 41 balls with two fours and four sixes over the shortened boundaries. Dave Pearson made 18 before becoming Ormerod's (3-45) third wicket. Mark Bolton made 19 before being stumped by Matt Wilson off Simon Hanson and Paul Kelly fell to Zaidi for 7 as the innings closed on 111-5. Accrington openers Hanson and Andy Greenwood wasted no time in putting bat to ball with Greenwood striking four fours and a six before being well held on the deep mid wicket boundary by Usama Chaudhary for 26 made off just 21 balls in an opening stand of 48. Zaidi smashed a six and a four before holing out to Kelly off Bolton for 10. Shah fell to Erasmus without scoring but the total had rattled along to 75 in next to no time. Stuart Crabtree also played a cameo of 10 before becoming Kelly's 400th Lancashire League victim at 97. The introduction of Kelly and Chaudhary signalled a mini collapse with 4 wickets falling for the addition of 11 runs but not before Hanson had completed a fine half century. The left hander hit seven fours, including some cracking sweep shots, and a six from just 48 balls. Skipper Graham Lloyd and Jacob Clarke saw Accrington to a record tenth win on the bounce and a sixth of the season in the 19th over.
