Accrington professional Ashar Zaidi continued his current policy of making runs whilst the sun shines by hitting 121 in his team's 98 run win over Burnley at Thorneyholme Road. A slow start saw just 12 runs come from the first 10 overs for the loss of Simon Hanson as Graham Lalor and professional Adnan Rasool made the most of helpful conditions. Andy Greenwood (15) departed at 44 but then Zaidi and Aijaz Shah got to work and added 187 for the 3rd wicket which is the club's highest ever partnership against Burnley. Zaidi hit nine fours and five sixes from 112 balls in passing 500 runs for the season, and Shah hit six fours and a five in making 61 as the league leaders piled up 251-7. Rasool took 6-63 for Burnley who were soon in trouble against an inspired Jimmy Hayhurst. The medium pacer sent back both openers Josh Whitehead (5) and stand-in skipper Dan Pickup (0) and then David Ormerod trapped Chris Burton in front to have Burnley 24-3. Qasim Ali (33, passing 4,000 Lancashire League runs), Rasool (37) and Steve Brunt (37) fought back but Hayhurst struck again to finish with a season's best 5-44 and Zaidi took 3-38 to dismiss Burnley for 153 and secure a ninth win in a row this season and extend the club's record winning streak to thirteen.
