Bacup v Accrington
League leaders Accrington got out of jail with 1 wicket win at lowly Bacup. Adam Highley hit his first half century of the season, making 51 from 108 balls with four fours in Bacup's 182-9. Skipper Joe McCluskie hit 47 from 50 balls with three sixes and a four, Matt Thompson made 24 and Aaron Fielding and professional Aubrey Swanepoel 13 apiece. Accrington professional Ashar Zaidi took 4-38. Some fine catching and an excellent spell by Jo Sipocz put Bacup in with a great chance but Simon Hanson made an unbeaten 16 from 30 balls, batting in the rescue slot at number eight, to see Accrington to a hard fought win with 4.4 overs to spare. It would have been so different if Swanepoel had held on to a catch off last man David Ormerod but the last pair put on 9 to see the leaders to a 14th win of the season and a 35 point cushion over Enfield with ten games left. Aijaz Shah top scored with 50 from 66 balls, including six fours and a six before being bowled by Sipocz. Highley took a great catch at square leg to send back Zaidi for 19 and John Syers also took a fine catch to get rid of Liam Smalley for 2. Matt Wilson hit a vital 19 after the leaders were in trouble at 134-6. Marley Ali made 14 and Graeme Sneddon 11 but both fell to Sipocz who took 5-69 in a fine spell. |
