Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse stamped their authority on their nearest challengers with a 19 run win at Accrington to move into an 8 point lead over Church at the top of the table after five matches. After the early loss of run out victim Jonny Whitehead in the 2nd over, Ben Heap (34) and Joe Martin (16) put on 54 before both fell to David Ormerod (4-66). Professional Francois Haasbroek upped the tempo with 46 from 51 balls, including two fours and a six with Matt Walker hitting a late unbeaten 13 as Lowerhouse closed on 160-8, a total that included 30 extras, 20 of which were wides. Joe Hawke (3-63) and Haasbroek (2-36) made early inroads to have Accrington struggling at 25-3 and a brilliant catch by the South African at mid on ended the innings of his opposite number Ashar Zaidi for 23. Wickets tumbled in the chase for runs and at 116-9 it was odds on the champions. A last wicket stand of 25 between Graham Lloyd (38) and Ormerod (0 not out) earned Accrington 4 batting points but they slip down the table 10 points adrift of Lowerhouse. Matt Wilson scored his 4,000th league run for Accrington during his innings.
