Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse's long unbeaten run ended when Accrington left Liverpool Road with a 34 run win. Defending a total of 102 all out Accrington soon had the champions in all sorts of trouble at 10-5 after 11 overs. The evergreen David Ormerod and professional Ashar Zaidi combined to bowl through the innings unchanged. Ormerod removed openers Ben Heap (0) and Jonny Whitehead (1) and then Joe Martin (7). Zaidi accounted for Paddy Martin (0) and professional Francios Haasbroek (0) and Ormerod picked up Charlie Cottam for 8 as the champions staggered to 19-6. The dangerous Chris Bleazard and Fergus Bailey began the task of rebuilding the innings with Bailey stonewalling for 57 balls before getting off the mark. The pair put on 33 for the 7th wicket when Bleazard, batting with Cottam as his runner, was finally bowled by Zaidi for 28. His innings lasted for 74 balls and contained four boundaries. Zaidi clean bowled Joe Beneduce 3 runs later and then held a return catch to send back Matt Walker (2) at 59. Last man Matt Marquis (3) and Bailey hung around until Marquis was stumped by Matt Wilson off Ormerod for 3 to give Accrington an historic 34 run win. Bailey's epic innings lasted for 112 balls and he finished on 9 not out. Zaidi took 5-25 and Ormerod 5-38. Accrington had earlier been bowled out for 102 with Aijaz Shah top scoring with 30. Simon Hanson (11) was the only other player in double figures with Bailey taking 3-14 and Haasbroek 3-28. This was Lowerhouse's first defeat since they lost at Accrington on August 27th last season, 15 matches ago. It was also the champions first home defeat since August 21st 2010, a run encompassing 20 matches. The win takes Accrington up to 3rd place in the table. Accrington skipper Jimmy Hayhurst said: "It was a good win for us. It was a funny day. I thought we didn't have enough runs but Dibber and Ash bowled fantastic and it just opened it up a little but there's a long way to go."
