Accrington are top of the league after a 31 run derby win at Church. In a 39 overs a-side match Accrington made 167-6 after being asked to bat. Professional Ashar Zaidi made 45, including four fours and two sixes, and Stuart Crabtree 43, with five fours and a six. The two left handers added 63 for the 4th wicket. A late unbeaten 36 from 26 balls by Aijaz Shah lifted the run rate in an unbroken 7th wicket stand of 42 with Graeme Sneddon (9 not out). Levi Wolfenden batted through the Church innings making an unbeaten 55 from 100 balls with four boundaries but the home side were restricted to 136-7 thanks to tight bowling by the visiting attack. David Ormerod bowled through the innings taking 3-62 and Zaidi took 3-49 from 14 overs after returning skipper Jimmy Hayhurst had made the breakthrough by dismissing his opposite number Craig Fergusson for 4. Saeed Anwar made 21, Muhammad Jamil 26, Adam Greenwood 15 and Andy Bentley an unbeaten 15 for the home side. Accrington now have 32 points from 3 games but have played a game more than most other clubs.
