Accrington got off to great start with a 7 wicket win over Rishton at Thorneyholme Road. New professional Ashar Zaidi was in seventh heaven as he snapped up 7-42 to bowl Rishton out for 114. Paul Carroll also chipped in with 2-24 and new skipper Jimmy Hayhurst (1-45) took the other wicket. Zaidi removed openers Irfan Muhammed (4) and Karl Andrews (2) and then Hayhurst trapped Shaun Wyse in front. Rishton professional Cameron Delport hit two sixes and three fours in making 27 but when faced with a first ball long hop from Carroll he could only find the safe hands of Simon Hanson at deep mid wicket. Carroll struck again thanks to a superb slip catch by Stuart Crabtree to remove Mo Patel (5). Zaidi then ran through the rest of the visiting batting as Rishton slumped to 75-9. New skipper Jimmy Bibby hit half a dozen boundaries in making an unbeaten 45 as he at last found an ally in Garth Wyse to add 39 for the last wicket to push Rishton up to 114. An opening stand of 66 between Andrew Greenwood (37) and Hanson (33) got the innings off to a fine start. Garth Wyse removed both men in picking up 2-24 and then Delport spoiled Zaidi's perfect day by dismissing him without scoring. Crabtree made an unbeaten 22 to steer Accrington to victory.
