Accrington have smashed the Lancashire League record for the highest total in a league match after hammering the Rawtenstall attack for 386-6 at Bacup Road on the way to a 153 run victory. Accrington professional Ashar Zaidi led the charge with a monumental innings of 174 before falling to his opposite number Lou Vincent off the last ball of the record breaking innings. The left handed Pakistani slammed seventeen boundaries and clubbed eleven sixes off 102 balls. Graham Lloyd joined in the fun to crash an amazing 112 in his first knock of the season, from just 60 balls with thirteen boundaries and six sixes to add a Lancashire League record 247 runs for the 5th wicket with Zaidi. League Legend Keith Roscoe conceded 140 runs in 21 overs in picking up 3 wickets with Vincent going for 77 off 8 overs in picking up both record breakers. The innings began with Roscoe removing Mitch Taylor for 22 and Rizwan Shafiq sending back Simon Hanson (8) with the total on 39. Stuart Crabtree was next to go to Roscoe after making 13 out of 41 added with Zaidi. Matt Wilson was Roscoe's next victim for 16 with the score on 128. Then the mayhem began. Lloyd's century was his third for the club, all on away grounds whilst Zaidi's 174 was the second highest innings by an Accrington player after Charlie Llewellyn's unbeaten 188 against Bacup in 1913. Accrington's previous highest total was also against Rawtenstall in 2006 when Nishit Shetty made 173 at Thorneyholme Road in a total of 341-5. The club's three highest individual scores have all been made by left handers. Back to the match and Rawtenstall replied with 233 all out. New man Jon Kerrigan made his mark on the Lancashire League in only his third innings with a century. He put on 111 for the 3rd wicket with Josh Rushmore (43) after openers Vincent (21) and Andy Payne (9) had been dismissed. Dan Guest (18) and Matt Kershaw (19) hung around but Zaidi completed a fine afternoon's work by taking 4-81 and Marley Ali (2-25) picked up his first senior wickets for Accrington as the home sides reply closed on 233 all out to put Accrington on top of the table with Ramsbottom after three successive wins. New Accrington skipper Jimmy Hayhurst said: "Fantastic, what a day. Ash was phenomenal, some fantastic hitting and then Lloydy was superb playing after no nets and just walked out and toned up. It was a monster total and Rawtenstall came out with an aggressive attitude and gave it a real go but getting the pro and Payney out early was key for us."
