Accrington retained the joint leadership of the Lancashire League with Lowerhouse after a 53 run win over East Lancs at Thorneyholme Road under the watchful eye of new Club President David Lloyd on a day that saw all the games affected by the early afternoon rain. Put in to bat Accrington made 160 thanks mainly to a 3rd wicket stand of 86 between professional Ashar Zaidi and Graham Lloyd after openers Andy Greenwood (23) and Marley Ali (10) had put on 28. In a match reduced to 31 overs a side, Lloyd made 52 from 47 balls with five boundaries in an innings of typically improvised reverse sweeps. Zaidi was last out in the final over after making 54 from 45 balls, also with five fours. Once Lloyd was well caught by Danny Chester off skipper Mark Bolton at 124, wickets fell in rapid succession with no other batsman making above 4. East Lancs professional Ockert Erasmus took 6-73 from 11 overs and Bolton 4-64. Openers Dave Pearson (13) and Mark Lomas (24) put on 34 but after Zaidi removed Lomas and David Ormerod had picked up Pearson wickets fell at regular intervals. Ormerod picked up 6-40 as the visitors were restricted to 107-8 with only Minhaj Bhada (14) and Nick Turner (11) making double figures of the other batsmen.
