Accrington v Church
An epic encounter at Thorneyholme Road saw Accrington scrape to a 1 wicket victory in a thrilling derby with Church. Professional Saeed Anwar top scored with 75 in Church's 139-6 before being run out in the last of the visitors 43 overs. The Pakistani hit two fours and three sixes from the 129 balls that he received. Mohammed Jamil also made 19 in the Church innings. Andy Bentley and Mohammed Jamil (5-46) quickly sent back the Accrington openers and when professional Ashar Zaidi ran himself out for 1, Accrington looked doomed. Mitch Taylor (18) and Graham Lloyd (34) fought back with a 4th wicket stand of 50 but then both men were out along with Simon Hanson to have the home side reeling at 71-6. The recalled Graeme Sneddon (28) and skipper Jimmy Hayhurst (22) put on 40 to turn the match but Jamil struck again to remove them both. Marley Ali (11) and Matt Schofield (5 not out) levelled the scores when Jamil sent back Ali to leave the last pair to secure the points with just 2 balls remaining. The win takes Accrington back into second place below new league leaders Lowerhouse . Skipper Jimmy Hayhurst said: "It was a fantastic finish. We looked out of it at one stage and a 40 partnership
between myself and Sneds gave us a glimmer and then Marley and Matt hit a 4 a piece
and ran well till the 3rd from last ball then Dibber glanced a leg bye single. It
was fantastic win. Also Mitch and Lloydy made good contributions to the score. We
bowled and fielded well too. I asked for a response and got it."
