Ramsbottom move into a clear 14 point lead with just 4 games to go after beating outgoing champions Accrington at Thorneyholme Road. An eventful Accrington innings saw four collections with Michael Haslam earning a double for taking a hat-trick and five wickets. Skipper Jon Fielding also bagged five victims to move on to 95 wickets for the season and Stuart Crabtree made his first half century of the campaign. Fielding (5-45) set the ball rolling with the dismissal of Matt Wilson for 8 with the score at 10. One run later Haslam (5-33) removed Accrington professional Will Driver and Andy Greenwood to catches behind the wicket with the last two balls of his third over. Simon Hanson was then bowled by the first ball of Haslam's fourth over and Accrington were in dire straights at 12-4. Crabtree and Graham Lloyd put on 46 before Lloyd edged a lifter behind off Haslam for 19. Wicketkeeper Andy Holt injured himself taking the catch so professional Alex Doolan put on the gloves for the rest of the innings. Crabtree went on to complete his half century, hitting seven fours and a six from 118 balls as Accrington were bowled out for 120. Jimmy Hayhurst picked up Keith Webb for 2 at 3 and Driver had Alex Bell stumped by Wilson for 5 with the score on 37. Doolan made 26 and David Bell 17 but when they fell to Driver and David Ormerod respectively and Jamie Pilling was run out for 8 the alarm bells were ringing at 78-5. Skipper Fielding took charge and led his side to a vital victory with an unbeaten 31, putting together an unbroken 6th wicket stand of 43 with Mark Dentith who was also unbeaten on 15.
