Brendan Nash returned to Lancashire League action with a match winning all round performance to help East Lancs maintain their title challenge with an 8 wicket win over champions Accrington at Alexandra Meadows. The West Indian Test star, in his first match since leaving for international duty after playing in just one league match, took 5-39 as Accrington were rolled over for just 96. Sid Patel also had a good afternoon taking 4-51 as the home side took nine catches, including a spectacular one handed diving effort by Phil Bolton in the gully to send back Paul Carroll for 15. Left handed openers Graeme Sneddon (13) and Simon Hanson (15) put on 21 but when both fell to Nash, wickets began to fall at an alarming rate. Only Jimmy Hayhurst, who top scored with 18 at number eight, offered any resistance. Sub professional Jonathan Clare bowled a good opening spell, claiming the wickets of the home sides left handed openers Dave Pearson and Minhaj Bhada, who were both caught behind by Matt Wilson for 5. That was the end of the champions success for the afternoon as Nash and John Turner ground out a 12 point win with an unbroken 3rd wicket stand of 76. Nash survived a life to the normally reliable hands of Graham Lloyd to make an unbeaten 40, including four boundaries. Turner also had an unexpected reprieve at the hands of David Ormerod in making an unbeaten 36, also including four boundaries.
