Accrington dented East Lancs' hopes of taking their title with a nail-biting 1 wicket win at Thorneyholme Road. The game saw a dramatic collapse by Accrington who lost 3 wickets in successive balls to East Lancs skipper Mark Bolton, who claimed his first senior hat-trick, with the home side needing just 6 runs for victory. Stand-in skipper Graham Lloyd steered his side level but then fell to Brendan Nash for 32, leaving the last pair of Paul Carroll and Damian Clarke to secure the points in the final over. Professional Will Driver top scored with 42, passing 700 runs for the season, with the recalled Stuart Crabtree (24, his highest score of the season), Simon Hanson (16) and Graeme Sneddon (14) also chipping in. Nash bowled through the innings for 4-61 and skipper Bolton took 4-43. Opener Dave Pearson batted through the East Lancs innings for an unbeaten 72. He faced 137 balls and hit just two boundaries in difficult batting conditions as he passed 700 runs for the season. Mark Lomas made 35 in an opening stand of 76 with his fellow veteran but only Nash with 10 could muster double figures of the rest of the batsmen as the visitors made 156-9. Carroll marked his return to the team by picking up 5-29, including the wicket of Nash who was well held by Sneddon at mid off. The win takes Accrington up to ninth place whilst East Lancs are now 16 points adrift of second placed Haslingden.
