Champions Accrington slumped to another defeat this time at the hands of in-form Burnley at Thorneyholme Road. Strengthened by the inclusion of Derbyshire's Jonathan Clare, the visitors made 230-8, assisted by no fewer rhan seven missed chances by the home side, with Clare making 70 and professional Farhaan Behardien 76. The pair put on 93 for the 3rd wicket with Clare hitting seven fours and a six in his 81 ball knock and the professional 76 from 93 balls with six fours and a six after the loss of free scoring openers Daniel Pickup (5) and Qasim Ali (17). Chris Burton (26) and Nathan Whitehead (10) also made useful runs with Accrington skipper David Ormerod picking up 5-77 as he bowled through from one end. Accrington's reply began badly with Clare snapping up James Ormerod at slip off Graham Lalor's opening delivery, but Simon Hanson and professional Will Driver built a stand of 122 which should have given Accrington victory. Driver made 65 with nine boundaries from his 113 balls and Hanson made 47 before he stepped out of his crease once too often and was stumped by Burton. Stuart Crabtree made 16 and Graham Lloyd 33 but wickets fell to Bharat Tripathi (4-69) and James Capstick (4-49) as the home side slumped to 183-9. Last pair David Ormerod (18 not out) and Damian Clarke (3 not out) secured another 3 batting points as Accrington finished on 212-9.
