Todmorden v Accrington
Holders Accrington fell at the first hurdle when last season's runners up Todmorden beat them for the third time this season this time by 63 runs at Centre Vale. Sub professional Ameer Khan top scored with 53, including two fours and two sixes in Todmorden's 201-8. Openers Ben Sutcliffe (33) and Simon Newbitt (29) got the home side off to a solid start with a stand of 54 before both fell to Paul Carroll (2-31). Nick Barker made 15 and skipper Jon Henderson upped the tempo with an unbeaten 35 with Simon Hanson taking 3-23 for Accrington. Tight bowling by James Morgan (3-29), Stuart Priestley (who conceded just 9 runs from his 10 over spell in picking up 2 wickets), Khan (2-25) and Steve Barker (2-32) made life difficult for Accrington who lost wickets at regular intervals after openers Carroll (25) and Jimmy Hayhurst (13) had put on 24. The loss of professional Roy Silva (22) and Graham Lloyd (15) to Priestley and Morgan respectively at 107 sounded the death knoll for Accrington's hopes of retaining the trophy. |
