Lancashire League champions Accrington cut Haslingden's lead at the top of the table down to 8 points after they beat Rishton and all of the other matches were rained off. Graham Lloyd made a timely return to form with an unbeaten 63 to see Accrington home by 4 wickets. Rishton made 126-6 in a 35 overs a-side match after being put in to bat. Jimmy Hayhurst picked up 5-44, his second 5 wicket haul of the season with Rishton sub professional Kudeshra Jayasinghe top scoring with 41. Stand-in skipper Craig Smith made 27 and Karl Andrews 18 before both were dismissed by Hayhurst. The champions made their usual shaky start with professional Roy Silva's dismal run of form continuing inspite of his promotion to the top of the order. The Sri Lankan was the first of Shaun Hutchinson's (4-47) four wickets closely followed by Matt Wilson (10). Stuart Crabtree (5) and Graeme Sneddon (1) soon followed as Rishton had the champions on the ropes at 31-4. Simon Hanson (6) helped Lloyd take the score to 61 and then Paul Carroll joined the former Lancashire man in a match winning partnership of 61 which doubled the score. Carroll made 24 from 26 balls, hitting three boundaries in his highest and best innings of the season. Lloyd was the senior partner, hitting eight fours from 73 balls in his second half century of the season. Lloyd also passed 400 runs in his highest score of the season to date.
