Five wickets by David Ormerod helped second placed Accrington maintain their title challenge with a 5 wicket win over Ramsbottom at Thorneyholme Road. Carrying a thigh injury, the Accrington skipper took 5-43 to bowl out the Worsley Cup holders for 106. Paul Carroll picked up 2-3 and professional Roy Silva 2-39 from an unbroken 17 over spell. Robert Read made an unbeaten 27 to shore up the Ramsbottom middle order with support from Alex Bell (20) and David Bell (18) but the visitors collapsed from 97-5 to 106 all out. Matt Wilson picked up 4 victims behind the sticks. Jack Walmsley removed Wilson (7) and Michael Haslam accounted for James Ormerod (11) but Graham Lloyd and Stuart Crabtree took the score to 59 when the left hander fell to Ross Brown for 11. Lloyd went on to hit nine boundaries from 73 balls, losing Silva (13) at 74, before he fell for 47 with just 5 runs needed for victory. Brown picked up 3-49 for Ramsbottom.
