East Lancs v Accrington
Brendan Nash hit a match winning unbeaten 120 to help lowly East Lancs to beat leaders Accrington by 38 runs at Alexandra Meadows. The West Indian Test star had made just 3 runs from his previous two league innings prior to the match. He put on 141 for the 2nd wicket with veteran Dave Pearson after John Turner had been bowled by Jimmy Hayhurst for 26 at 42. Pearson faced 113 balls in making 68, which included eight boundaries. Sid Patel (17) then put on 42 for the 3rd wicket with Nash who plundered eleven boundaries and two sixes from the Accrington attack from the 110 balls that he faced. Damian Clarke was Accrington's most successful bowler with 3-42. Paul Carroll (19) and Hayhurst (21) opened up with 28 and then Stuart Crabtree and Graeme Sneddon (27) put on 70 for the 3rd wicket. Crabtree went on to hit 55, his second half century of the season from 70 balls with six fours and two sixes. Stand-in skipper Paul Kelly removed Crabtree, professional Roy Silva (1), Graham Lloyd (24), Matt Schofield (6) and David Ormerod (19) as Accrington were dismissed for 221. Kelly picked up 5-38 from a fine spell and he also took a superb catch at mid wicket to remove Toc Hussain (11) off Patel. Accrington have been joined at the top of the table by Enfield who beat Rishton by 4 wickets at Dill Hall Lane.
