Champions Accrington stay in second place after their tenth maximum point victory of the season but East Lancs made them fight all the way for an 8 run win. Simon Hanson steered Accrington to 162-9 after the champions had been in trouble at 113-7 with Nas Iqbal taking 4-44 for East Lancs. Hanson faced 80 balls as he shepherded the tail to a defendable total with an unbeaten 34. Professional Roy Silva also made 30, James Ormerod 21 and Graeme Sneddon 19 for Accrington. Silva picked up left handers David Pearson (5) and Andy Clague (14) and skipper David Ormerod removed John Turner (4) with a fine catch off his own bowling and Darryl Redhead was well caught by Stuart Crabtree for 15 as the visitors struggled to 51-4. Mark Lomas (32) and sub professional Jon Fielding (39) added 79 for the 5th wicket but Paul Carroll (3-27) and his skipper (4-60) struck to send both men back to help Accrington on their way to a penultimate ball victory. Sound catching by the champions earned a vital win with Graeme Sneddon taking three catches and Crabtree two.
