Colne dealt Accrington a blow to their hopes of retaining the Lancashire League title by handing the champions a 3 wicket defeat at The Horsfield in the only match to start on time after the morning rain. Accrington were bowled out for 120 with Colne skipper Jeff Ellis (5-51) and professional Anwar Ali (5-55) splitting the wickets. Matt Wilson then hit a vital half century to see Colne to victory. Stuart Crabtree top scored with 41 from 46 balls for Accrington, the left hander hitting six boundaries before being trapped in front by Ellis after putting on 52 for the 5th wicket with Graham Lloyd. Ellis had removed opener James Ormerod (2) and then sent back professional Roy Silva (6) and Graeme Sneddon in successive balls after the amateur had offered no stroke. Lloyd hit four boundaries, including a sublime straight drive off Ali who had his revenge in the next over by removing the former Lancashire man without addition. Simon Hanson fell to the second ball of the over but Matt Wilson survived the hat-trick ball, only to become Ali's third victim of his 10th over off the final ball. Jimmy Hayhurst was last man out giving Ali his fifth wicket and Justin Nutter a rare running catch after a gentle lob to mid off. After a 30 run opening stand Ellis fell to Silva. Hayhurst had his revenge on Nutter to kick off a fine spell of 3-18 from 7 overs. Wickets fell at regular intervals but whilst Wilson was still there Colne were always favourites. The opener hit seven fours and a six off 81 balls before Paul Carroll trapped him leg before at 95. Jack Mansfield soon followed caught at slip by Lloyd off Ormerod but Matt Walker held his nerve to finish unbeaten on 24 with John Lambert still there on 16 to seal victory for Colne.
