A magnificent unbeaten 84 by Graham Lloyd kept Accrington on top after a nail-biting 1 wicket win over bogey side Ramsbottom at Thorneyholme Road. The former Lancashire man returned to form with a brilliant match winning innings as wickets tumbled around him. Lloyd hit ten fours and a six from 80 balls to help Accrington recover from another poor start. Matt Wilson was first to go caught behind off Mike Haslam without scoring followed by Paul Carroll who made 17 including a huge six into Highams off Ramsbottom professional Shane Harwood. The Australian soon had his revenge by scattering the openers stumps. Stuart Crabtree soon followed but Graeme Sneddon and professional Roy Silva took the score from 26 to 96 with both men making 37. Toby Bulcock and Zahir Afzal were both run out without scoring as the tension mounted but Lloyd stayed firmly in charge as Jimmy Hayhurst and skipper David Ormerod came and went. Last man Damian Clarke kept Lloyd company as the match was won in the final over to keep Accrington 9 points in front of Rawtenstall with six games to play. David Bell had earlier top scored with an unbeaten 64 with good support from Phil Hayes (40) and Harwood, who hit 45 from 39 balls with three fours and three sixes. Silva picked up 3-58 for the league leaders. Ramsbottom were deducted a point for a slow over rate for the third time this season.
